Saw this guy across the street from one of the hunting properties. Land owner said he wasn't laying there at 7:00 this morning. Sheriff is on the way to issue a tag.

Dang Dave! I hate to see that. At least you’ll be able to get some extra meat from him. Did he bust off most of his other side? Car collision?

Well, I couldn't resist it anymore.

After a fantastic meal with wonderful family, and then shortly after they left, I scurried to gather my hunting gear and took off for my ladder stand that is fairly close to the house.

I slipped right in for last hour of hunting for the day and glad that I did.

No sooner when got into my stand, I seen two Does and two small Bucks within 75 yards of me, to my North, right on the other side of the creek.

Shortly after that, I heard some crunching just to my right (East), and three antlerless deer popped over the ridge, not even 15 yards away.

The two littlest ones were clueless that I was in the area. In fact, one of them got within 10' of me nibbling on Honeysuckle leaves right behind me,

however 'Mother' Doe apparently got a decent whiff of me cause she stop dead in her tracks just before stepping out.

She ended up taking a more round about way to catch up with her little ones and kept her distance from me.

All three of them were downwind of me for the entire encounter and finally 'Mother' Doe lead her little ones away heading Northwest.

No blow, no tail flagging, just a quick stride out of the area.

'Mother' Doe knew I was in the area, but she didn't know where exactly.

Then right at quitting time when I was about to climb down, I seen this guy once again;

A 'Great Horned Owl' right in the middle of the photograph.

I continue to watch him and the moon rising this evening.

Both were beautiful to watch in action let me tell ya.

All in all, my last hour of daylight on this 'Thanksgiving Day' was pretty awesome and I didn't kill a darn thing.

Going for an all day'er tomorrow fellas!

Not sure where yet.

I'll figure that out here shortly.

So good night 'TOO'ville!

I'll catch up with you guys in the morning...

What a morning it's been already.

I've seen so many deer that I've kinda lost track.

All of them within bow range 'TOO'!

Let's see now;
  1. Two on the way to my stand. A small Buck & a Doe.
  2. One, I think was a heavy Buck, but not entirely sure, that was on a steady march headed North right underneath my stand just before legal time as I was still trying to get settled.
  3. One lone little antlerless deer, just to my west, within 40 yards.
  4. Four antlerless deer that came in quick from the CRP field just to my North and like a train, they cruised right by my stand within 20 yards.
  5. Then shortly after all of that, for about 10 minutes or so, deer were running all over the place just to my West. Appeared to be playing 'Tag' or something. All of them were antlerless deer. I have them on video that I'll upload later.
So, all of that happened before sunrise this morning.

I hope this is a good sign for a shooter Buck to be available here shortly.

Good luck to whomever is hunting today!

Good luck wildlife! Definitely putting your time in. I’m sorta curious how many set ups ya got, as well as if people come in and hunt them in gunseason or do you pull them. Sorta curious how that works out where ya hunt. I know ya got quite a few different spots.

"Curiosity killed the cat" don't-chya know

Anyhow,

I'm a huge outdoor fan and especially this time of year.

I have plenty of patience going after the Buck I hope to harvest this season.

I'm just waiting to have the right opportunity to make it happen, that's all.

Besides, I already have some real good fresh venison in the freezer after harvesting two good size Does earlier in the season.

There are so many days left that I'll be able to hunt like the way that I currently do.

I'm not getting any younger that's forsure!

Regarding my hangons that I currently have setup, which is my;
  1. Western Stand (Funnel)
  2. Eastern Stand (Hilltop)
  3. Northern Ladder Stand
  4. Northern CRP Stand
  5. Southern CRP Stand
  6. Northern Upper Field Stand
  7. Southern Upper Field Stand
Then I still have my API climber & my 'Big Mike' pop-up ground blind available to go at any given time.

Stands do stay up during gun week since I'm still after a decent mature buck.

I do pull some foot pegs on a few of them for that week, but not on the ones that I'll be using.

I don't want anyone using my stands cause I don't want anyone getting hurt using my shit.

I don't nor would I ever use anyone's stand without getting permission first.

I expect that from all hunters as well.

Respect for other people's property these days is severely lacking no question about it.

A little courtesy & respect can go a long ways in my book if one chooses to go that route.

Simply ask first and you may be surprised in the answer you might receive.

I hope that I'm clear in answering your questions.

Please let me know if not, thanks!

Totally.
I know you hit it hard. Just wondered if ya had problems with others. I agree with pretty much everything ya said. I’ve seen your generosity to others throughout the last few years. Youths and other things.

Nothing wrong with waiting on what ya want.Makes it a lot more challenging. I typically don’t hunt out of a tree stand unless it’s gun season.

Just figured I would ask. Seems and I may be wrong you don’t know all the gun hunters that come in where ya hunt. We all know how that can be.

Here's one of the few videos I took of the antlerless deer stretching their legs out and burning off their last bit of energy before heading off to bed this morning before sunrise.
I'm hoping that when they wake up later that they'll attract a real good buck from the CRP field.

I think there are at least six of them currently that are bedded approximately 50-60 yards away from me, just to my West.

I expect them to get up somewhere around 4:00-4:30.

I'll find out forsure soon enough cause I'm not going anywhere on this absolutely gorgeous Friday afternoon.

It's warming up nicely and feels good!

Until then, I'll continue to be entertained by these super fat squirrels that are all around me at the moment.

Later on fellas & have a good one!
