Left her 72 hours, but it wasn't enough or it wasn't well timed in her cycle as it appears she did not take. We're well beyond the typical gestation period for a dog and she shows zero sign of being pregnant. Pretty bummed, but we'll try again. In the meantime, I'm starting to shop for a fox red lab. I miss training a dog and I miss having a working dog. We have 270 acres where I work and with the topper on my truck and my flexible schedule, I have all I need to train regularly on a daily basis. Dog can crate train in the truck, work on obedience at lunch and stop by the river or lake on the way home. Ideally, I have a started pup ready for field experience by this time next year.
Sounds like a perfect scenario for some consistent training. Time and space are two huge limiting factors for retriever training, and it looks like you'd have that licked.

Sucks Lulu didn't take but it's not the end of the world. There'll be other chances. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any solid fox red dogs. If Betty is like her mom she'll have a good chance at throwing fox red. My problem is the bitch just refuses to go in heat. Too much hunting I guess... Has her cycle all mixed up.

Yesterday was Sully's 9th birthday. A week before that was my wife's Yorkie's 8th birthday. Both were at the vet on Thursday. Katie had some teeth cleaned, &some pulled. She had a tumor cut out. Sully's snout on left side is swollen & he has an abcessed tooth. When it rains, it pours. Ugggh.

Some of you guys witnessed Lulu do this at Strouds. I busted her stashing a bone out back the other day. This morning I gave her a leftover sausage link and she ran around the yard for 5 minutes exploring hiding spots. She eventually cached it at the base of the tree. She scoops and tamps with her snout and is really good at covering her tracks. I barely noticed the bone and wouldn't have if I'd not seen her bury it. Never had a dog do this before, so it's funny to see. Straight up farm dog!

Thought Hank was out of the woods. Yet, he has had several accidents in the house. He doesn't pee in the house so I know something is up. Yesterday my daughter called. Said he was panting really bad, stood up, started peeing. That's it. Called vet again. She took a pee sample. Elevated white blood cells and some elevation in red. No blood or crystals in it. She is thinking it may be a urinary tract infection. I hope it is. If not, then it could be enlarged prostate. . . .or tumor. Neither sound good. Neither is a cheap fix either. I think she said getting him snipped is prostate fix although that sounds too little too late at 10yrs old. I don't know. She is the vet. Not me. If the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs don't fix him it is x-ray or ultrasound time. We are up to $561. Hope we are done spending money, but he's my boy. You all know how that goes or you wouldn't be reading this thread.
