Thanks Chuck. He WAS on the mend. Hadn't had an accident. Running and playing daily. Thought we were good. This came on suddenly. Maybe an hour and he was filled up. The syringe of fluid the vet took was blood. Looked watery like a gut shot deer type blood. Something wasn't right. Heart? Good chance it was failing according to vet. We opted to put him down. Struggling to breath was the deciding factor. Can't have our dogs feeling like they are suffocating. That is not an existence.Definitely sorry to hear that Phil. Had hoped he was on the mend and make a full recovery.
So sorry for your loss....it’s always tough losing a part of your family. I also didn’t want to endure that pain again and was dead set against getting another dog. We missed not hearing the pitter-patter of feet in the house for a few months, so we got a rescue dog, then a year later got another. They give us so much happiness and unconditional love that I’m glad we did. It will be very painful when their time comes but I think the 10-15 years you get to spend with them is worth it. Wish they lived a lot longer. I hope you get another one when you’re ready.
Sorry if I got the thread all sappy. .
