Our Jaden was also born on 11/16 and we received via the Alabama hillbilly express on 1/7. He's 4 now.
Good luck. I love it when moonshine'd bark and growl at the window to let me know somebody is out front or backyard. My wife and daughter have been talking about another dog quite a bit lately. Then my wife will say "I'm okay with only one dog. We don't need another one. . . Hey look at this one at the pound!" She is pushing towards a weiner dog. No. No. No. I don't want a little yapper. She said I could get a shirt that says "Have you seen my weiner" with a picture of a dashund. Tempting. Funny. No. Not doing it. I'm leaning towards a cur dog. Maybe another boxer. I would like another shadow that minds me like our last two boxers or Hank the GSP. Hank was perfect other than his weak security system. I like a nice door bell in the form of a healthy bark. Where we live we don't see a lot of visitors. Be nice to let strangers know the house is never empty. Don't want a "mean dog" but I do miss the firm bark and protective instinct of a boxer. I'm thinking a cur might be the compromise between GSP and Boxer. Affectionate, protective, smart. Need to do more research. Need to wait a bit longer. Maybe next month.
We use the same bells on a string at the door trick...now they ring it not only to go outside to pee...they use it when they want to go out and play. It’s like they are training us!Our new guy is growing like crazy. He has been an excellent addition to our family. He has all of the basic commands down really well. The best is my wife taught him to ring a a string of bells at the door when he needs to go out. We have had him for 4 weeks and only two accidents.View attachment 73052
Yeah I wished I would have gotten two.Good looking pup, Kim! And good luck in your quest, Phil!
I'm still in limbo myself. Called a few breeders and got serious for 5 minutes about a GSP this weekend. I've spent more time shopping for a new roto-molded kennel and other training supplies than I have a dog. Figure once we take care of our current vehicle situation, I'll get serious about a dog. I do miss having more than one.
I love GSPs. Any time I spend a little time with one it makes me want to own one in the worst way. Their personalities are really cool. I will likely get one some day.Good looking pup, Kim! And good luck in your quest, Phil!

GriffinI agree with you, JB. I saw a lady walking one a few weeks back and did a double take for both her, and the dog. Turns out, my SIL boards that dog and had her this past weekend. I got the breeder's name and number, called and he had one male left. Ultimately, we decided to pass until I get a kennel built here at the house. That, and I am having a hard time justifying a dog that doesn't hunt waterfowl.
They’re ugly, that’s for sure. But seem to fit what you asked for.
You drinking already?!?
I'm a lab guy through and through when it comes to my hunting needs. Definitely not into dogs with longer hair, or ones that need grooming. Griffins are alright looking dogs, just not my thing.
Get a lab Phil. I'm pretty pleased with our boy and his barkMy wife and daughter have been talking about another dog quite a bit lately. Then my wife will say "I'm okay with only one dog. What if it identifies as a lab? Huh? Ever think about that?!My mom has tried to talk me into one for years. I'll take a lab that sheds over that ugly bastard any day.
Griffins, drathaars, pudelpointers... All of those versatile breeds have claims attached that they can do it all. I've hunted with several and have yet to see it for my own eyes. In the upland they are incredible animals. They're easily the most athletic dogs I've been around. But I've never seen one that was a great duck dog. Ones I've seen acted like they had no internal desire to enter water, especially not cold water. There are exceptions of course but with versatiles you're just trying to TRAIN retrieving into an upland machine. It can be done but it's just not natural in most cases. That, and that long hair is a fuckin nightmare to deal with.Griffin
