Once again, regulations often come from disasters. How many years/times have they done this, all over the world, and never had an issue?

Is it just me, when JD Vance drug that stick along the bottom of the creek, and an oil sheen came up…I’m thinking, do that in any shallow slow moving creek in coal/oil country and you’d get the same thing. I’ve sunk my boot in creek mud only to find the same thing. I think he’s over playing his hand. I don’t know if those chemicals are oily in nature, but I don’t think they’ve been there in volume and duration to settle down in 3 inches in mud. Having said that, don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t be staying in that town any time soon.

My takeaway from Vance on the whole creek stick video? Dude, who wears $500 shoes down too a creek? At least wear a pair of muck boots with the tags still on them! 😳

I seriously doubt that doing that a week before the derailment would have netted the same result. Some of those creeks have (had) a good population of small mouth in them in years past. @Ohiosam and I hunt not far from the derailment and there’s feeder creeks we maneuver through and I’ve never witnessed that sheen.

My wife has a very good friend who lives in EP, they live next to the school just outside the mandatory evacuation zone. They have lived in the town for over 40 years and her husband taught school there so they know everyone. They've gone to the town informational meetings and she said the people there that are the loudest and angriest are people they don't recognize. With all the troubles they are facing now they don't need outside agitators.

Now this friend is what I'd call "chemical phobic" They don't like chemicals, they get upset when the school sprays roundup along the fences behind their house. If there's anyone I'd expect to be crapping bricks over this it's them, but their attitude is outside people are blowing this out of proportion.

This is what I suspected. Outsiders and politicians trying to score points. The JD Vance creek piece doesn't add up to me. I want to see the same "experiment" done upstream of the accident. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be drinking well water or living within a couple miles of the accident until I see unbiased reports telling me it's safe. I hope I'm right but I could be wrong...that sheen could be a direct result of the accident but Im skeptical until I see more proof.
