^^^^^this. The knee-jerk reactions are heartwarming, but I'm not getting my hopes up that sales will continue to fall off for more than a few weeks. I'll be shocked if we are even still talking about this in a month.

Agreed but as one of the articles above mentioned no matter the damage done, it's a done deal. Even if people slowly come back its a consumable and it's not like people are going to drink twice as much to make up for the losses. Even a temporary drop has pretty damming consequences when it comes to earnings projections and year end performance. Those in turn have an impact of investor confidence, budgeting, credit services etc. For every locked in consumer they lose they'll have to replace them and that takes time. Dave loves his Busch Lattes, if he quits drinking them on the regular some new 22 year old consumer they manage to gain isn't going to replace that consistent purchase volume. They'll have to replace people at a 3:1 or more volume to hold the volume because those new consumers aren't likely set on a choice brand.

I don't think any company has the stones (yet) to give that much of a push back on the "popular" trend of more than 2 genders/ etc.

My guess is they are trying to back peddle without the one side coming out with pitch forks and literal mobs. The other side will just cause them to lose revenue....

Yep rock and a hard place. They can't risk pissing off the wokies either. About all they can do is what they've done, not denounce the message, but blame a lower-level emoloyees. Careful double talk. Behind the scenes however I bet heads are rolling. Give it a few months and we'll see some kind of patriotic or masculine marketing campaign to recapture consumers.

In the end though it doesn't really matter. Remember when Dicks Sporting Goods came out and got rid of ARs. Then donated a ton of money to the sandy hook parents to push gun legislation. I personally haven't bought a thing from them since. But their stock price has tripled since then.

So one of my best friends' wife is a psychiatrist (medical doctor). I asked her this question. If someone looks in the mirror and sees a fat disgusting slob instead of the normal human being in the mirror and ends up not eating (anorexia) or purging everything they eat (bulemia) its considered a mental illness (diagnosis in the DSM, etc) and we attempt to help them recover from it. However if someone looks in the mirror and sees themselves as a different gender than what is in the mirror we are supposed to accept it and support them in being who they feel they are. How are these issues in how someone sees themselves and how they actually are different other than in the aspect of what they feel is not as it truly is? Needless to say she couldn't give a good concrete rationale other than a variant of public opinion/popular culture/influence/changes in cultural norms, etc.

Yes I remember. I still hate to shop at Dicks and can count on 1 hand the number of things I buy from them in a year but at least in my area there aren't too many other options. I will go to the smaller sporting goods chains whenever possible but (and especially with kids where sizing is everything) online isn't always a valid option.

I do completely refuse to buy any of the outdoor gun/hunting related stuff from their co-brand though.
