Didn’t I see Or hear where 1.5 million people world wide died of TB last year? If that’s true, why wasn’t there “massive amounts of hysteria and doctors proclaiming the country and all its Schools and businesses need to shut down till it is under control? Why wasn’t it listed as a pandemic? Didn’t those lives matter? What age classes did TB kill last year? How does Covid stats stack up to TB?

I am lucky I haven't gotten it because I am fat and not the healthiest person but every morning I wonder if it is the day.
Covid aside, i find it ironic you are ridiculing people for not doing things to prevent illness yet, you have admitted you are over weight and unhealthy. Obesity leads to many illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, CHF, sleep apnea, ect. Why do you not pracitce what you preach and take preventitive measures to prevent yourself from the many illnesses you are at risk for if you are in fact over weight and not healthy as you suggest? Not trying to be mean and I am not saying whether you should or should not wear a mask. However, to ridicule others for not doing something preventative as you yourself has admitted is hypocritical.

I believe we should wear masks regularly during Flu season. He shouldn't have said that, it was wrong and potentially propagated the spread. I heard he did say that the masks should go to the healthcare facilities because there was a true fear they would run out and luckily they didn't. But it was still not a good decision on his part.

515 people died of TB in 2017 according to the CDC.

3/4 of American are overweight and there are complications associated with being overweight termed metabolic syndrome yes. - spreading of a virus and body mass are apples and boats. Very different.

Pretty sure heart disease and heart failure are very high up on the causing of deaths in America, so not really apples to boats. Obesity related disease and deaths are just as preventable.

So how does the flu differ than Covid? It’s been around much longer and kills more than Covid, except for this year no one has died from the flu. Very strange huh?

There were no pandemic measures for the flu, what’s changed? Oh you want mail in voting!

Number 8 cause of death

Seems to me the dumb fuckers of the world knew more than the drs by buying all the shit paper available when this broke out. For the record, shitting your sphincter out wasn’t an aliment at the time covid came out

And now the people are supposed to believe anything that is told to them. Drs still don’t have a stranglehold on Covid after using every resource available to the world along w trillions of dollars thrown at it. Yeah that gives me the warm and fuzzies.

All good points. I won't jump on him for it though. I've seen plenty of coaches who sucked in the sport they coach. There is a reason they are a coach and not an athlete. I'll listen to an overweight doctor, but I won't buy a steak from a vegetarian butcher. Everyone draws the line somewhere.

Thanks for your further posts, doctor. Better bedside manner a than the earlier ones. I appreciate hearing first hand reports. Fortunately for my area, the only reports I've heard are from my wife's best friend. She has been on a Covid unit for two months. Has one patient in serious condition. She says the patient would be in trouble if she had flu or other virus due to pre-existing conditions. Other input from former coworker of my wife on a Covid floor. More patients to tend to, but sounds like things are settling down. Then my business partner (family practitioner) has offered some insight as well. His nursing homes have been more challenging since Feb. Otherwise his amish communities are the issue because they do what they want. Zero distancing. No masks. When one person gets it they don't seem to change their ways. I'd say I've had a fair amount of firsthand info. I'm still not concerned. I'm just going to continue enjoying my avoidance of people.

Everyone should do their part and request restaurants only serve saucer-sized plates of food. Even if you're a healthy person with no weight issues it's about protecting your fellow citizens from their lack of personal accountability and responsibility. State and federal governments should pass ordinances and issue statewide mandates that restaurants and people should not consume more than the daily FDA recommended food portions under penalty of law. We all have to do our part to end the obesity epidemic as obesity-related conditions are the leading cause of preventable death in America. We must act individually to prevent others from being able to become obese and settle for mandated smaller portion sizes. But let's not stop there. Governments should mandate that alcohol consumption by all individuals should not exceed the 7 drinks a week limit to be considered a heavy drinker. By allowing restaurants and bars to operate with impunity and serve customers who don't abide by this puts everyone at risk of developing alcoholism. We're all in this together and we all have to do our part.

Hey, you shut up! 🤐😂

While it’s true that once in a Hospital, the only thing most people will receive is supportive therapy. Nonetheless, I’ve become tired of hearing the nagging from healthcare workers.

Factually, public health professionals used a flawed study to guide old folks into places where they could contract the disease. 40-65% of deaths in Ohio & NY are from patients older than 50. In NY, more people died in adult care facilities from SARS-CoV2 than died in 9/11.

That didn’t happen because of mask compliance. It occurred because of poor decision making.

We are nearing a point where people are simply ignoring public health guidance, because that guidance sounds like Charlie Brown’s Mom ...”wonk wonk wonk”

If you feel obligated to wear a mask, please do so.

I guess it says 2018 but it wasn’t an issue cuz it wasn’t an election year. My point was EVERYTHING has become political including this new strain of SARS virus which was sent here courtesy of a communist country that hates us and wants to dominate the world. What’s sad is Fox News is about the only mainstream news media that has even mentioned that or implied that narrative.
This country and its citizens need to band together but this country is the most divided I have ever seen it. Trump hasn’t caused this division, IMO rather than the hatred of him along with 90% of the mainstream media feeding their audience with fake or altered anti Trump BS.

I'm voting with my dollar at the moment too. I haven't been to WV since they mandated masks and I spend a fair amount of money over there. I'm done with Wal-Mart and Kroger too, places we spend a combined $1K a month. Because I'm where I am, acquiring food is difficult if you dont go to Wally World or Kroger, so I'll need to get creative. If this wasn't an overblown political issue, I'd follow along. But the #s simply do not indicate the need to infringe upon the actions of less than 1% of Americans. Not to mention my early statement that the vast majority of people wearing a mask, are not doing it right and are constantly touching the germ soaked rag draped across their face, then touching everything else in sight.

Keep posting Geezer. Nothing wrong with different opinions. Plus, you are in a different category than most of us. I'd be way more cautious if I had another 30yrs under my belt as well.

Doc- good luck. I realize you are working directly in this field. I have friends and family working the front lines too. Even some of them are questioning what they are being told. Still following orders, but asking more questions. I'll wear my mask if around people. Been doing a pretty good job of simply NOT being around people. Always was OCD on hand washing, so this is no different for me. I might recommend starting on page one of this thread. You might find there have been some swings in opinion as this has progressed. I think people are respecting what it is for the most part. More cautious than before. If it is my time to go, I'm not afraid. Doesn't mean I'm trying to expedite the process. Doesn't mean we need to agree either.

Hey Phil i'm not worried about my self - its the younger generation and their future that concerns me - this thread is just a peek at the tremendous divide in this country and i don't want to contribute to it so i'm done on this thread - there is some stuff i wanted to say but i would be preaching to the chior - stay safe

Actual science behind mask wearing. It ain't good for us.

none of that is news to people who actually have to wear PPE when they go to work to keep themselves healthy and safe.

wouldn't it be nice if the media and the government would spend as much time promoting honest, legitimate common sense measures like good hygiene and social distancing as they do wearing masks? I guess that wouldn't generate near as much controversy and fear.

you don't have to have a PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology, or Virology to realize that staying far away from other people, particularly sick people, is the best, and perhaps the only way to avoid contracting a virus.
