2019-nCoV (Coronavirus)

For us we have masks and gloves at the ready any time we venture out. It just seems too soon to be throwing caution to the wind, at least up here around the metro Detroit area. It was just a couple weeks ago our numbers were climbing steadily and we were hearing of friends of friends who passed from it, some younger than me. Besides, I have plenty of things around the house to keep us busy that don't require us to wear masks LOL.

Anyone care to look geezer in the eye without your face coverings and tell him you don't care about reducing his chance of catching this thing that could kill him, that you're helping with herd immunity or that you only wear when you are required to do so by the establishments you patronize?

If masks don't work, hospitals, paramedics and EMTs don't need them. If people aren't using them right, then educate them, don't say not to wear them. As for the WHO, they are in bed with China.

Man, I'm sorry guys, I realize putting it that way will probably piss you off, and I'm not here to try to make enemies. I respect all of of you. I just don't know of a better way to illustrate the point.

Sure, from 10'. Love ya Geezer, but I can not wear a mask and not put you at risk. They aren't mutually exclusive actions. If I were near Geezer, I'd stay well more than 6' away to visit and if he asked me to wear a mask, I would because of my respect for him. @Blan37, you make a lot of great points, but you will sensationalize a statement to make a point occasionally, too. This is one of those moments, IMO. But, "I realize putting it that way will probably piss you off, and I'm not here to try to make enemies. I respect all of of you. I just don't know of a better way to illustrate the point."

I appreciate your honesty.

I wasn't trying to sensationalize. I genuinely got defensive and pissed for geezer and people like him. One of the ways I strongly believe we can help him and people like him is if everyone is masked up. My anger really goes back to the CDC, the SG and Fauci. We are where we are because of them.

This post probably sounds sensationalized as well, but that's not what I'm trying to do. It's how I write. Not sure how to fix that.

There is a LARGE difference between a surgical/ medical mask and a cloth mask or bandana in protection for both the wearer and those around them.

In fact, the surgical masks that I and everyone else who works in the operating room wear are to protect the patient from our germs in their surgical site. If you get surgery in Europe only the surgeon and those directly over the site wear them. I'm taking about other mainstream countries with healthcare systems similar to ours. Even with this, they have similar surgical infection rates and risks, they've found that everyone masking doesn't help in that situation.

Also, medical personnel have our should have been trained in how to use them, and they're single use items. One mask per patient encounter, not all day. Everytime you touch something you change the gloves, otherwise you're cross contaminating everything.

Final thoughts, a touch simplistic i admit.
If the masks work, why is anything closed?
If the masks don't work, why are we being coerced/ forced to use them?

There is a level of conditioning going on I'll touch on later.

It seems more of a compliance matter rather than a safety matter. I am somewhat biased because i'm forced to wear one at work. I do not however, wear one when i'm out in public. Berate me all you want, I ain't doin it...

My apologies to @giles and @bowhunter1023 for crossing the line and making it personal (and anyone else I've pissed off). Shouldn't have done that. I realize I have strong opinions and can get pretty abrasive at times.

Bro, I ain’t upset. Do not ever apologize to me or anyone’s because you are you! You give a fuck and it shows. Not a damn thing wrong with that. Hold that light proud for everyone to see. This is a very touchy subject and there has been lots of emotion in this thread. I’ve said things that have also set people off. We have each other to vent to. That’s what makes this place different than every other web forum. There’s a level of give a fuck here you won’t find anywhere else. Own it.

Ditto. I ain't mad at ya @Blan37. I appreciate your fervor and how you articulate that. If we all thought this same thing (which we've been accused of doing here) it would be a boring discussion. I've been on internet forums for 16 years. I don't get mad at the internet anymore :ROFLMAO:

I know masks / face coverings aren't perfect. It's risk reduction, not risk elimination.

I understand the mask/glove single use thing. I used to be an EMT. But the thing is, that's a training issue, not a reason to toss the idea. Maybe it's naive of me to hope everyone could learn how to use them. I know there's a lot of holes in my position, like some people have n95's and others have DIY t-shirt masks. I have no idea what that variety does with the outcome of all this.

I sure would have liked to have seen what would have happened with >80 participation of people wearing face coverings/masks before we went to the extreme of locking down our country and ruining peoples lives.

Anyhow, for my sanity I'm moving on from the mask thing... I am curious to hear what you have to say about conditioning. People are not letting this crisis go to waste, that's for sure.
