Be Ahead Of The Curve.

A local MS and LA grocery chain named Rouses had 81% ground on a fire sale today for $2.49 a lb. I picked up 36 lbs. We usually mix a 1/4 lb in with 1lb of deer. I'm going to bust this up into 1/2 lb vacuum sealed packages. As needed cook 2lbs of deer and a half lb of ground beef. Divide and refereze or refrigerate the other half for another meal. . That's 144 meals or close to a years worth at 3 meals a week. I have about 60lbs of ground deer on hand so I need to put some MS deer on the ground this season to finish it out.

U.S. consumer prices jump 6.2% in October, the biggest inflation surge in more than 30 years

Fuel oil prices soared 12.3% for the month, part of a 59.1% increase over the past year. Energy prices overall rose 4.8% in October and are up 30% for the 12-month period.

Used vehicle prices again were a big contributor, rising 2.5% on the month and 26.4% for the year. New vehicle prices were up 1.4% and 9.8%, respectively.

Food prices also showed a sizeable bounce, up 0.9% and 5.3% respectively. Within the food category, meat, poultry, fish and eggs collectively rose 1.7% for the month and 11.9% year over year.

Kill more deer, hogs, ducks etc. catch more fish and grow your own and enjoy what our grandparents did and their ancestors did before them. You really don’t need what we’ve learned to rely on growing up. We have become spoiled w convenience. Yes we still have to buy staples and fuel but not like most Americans these days.

I added 75 lbs of flour 50lbs of sugar and a bunch of active dry yeast to the stockpile yesterday. Flour being a core staple I want to have a bunch on hand for making bread, biscuits, cakes, rolls etc. You can get 25lbs for $9 from Sams. With inflation and fuel prices raging grocery prices are only going to get worse. Ukraine and Russia produce about 35% of the world's grain. The US does not import any grain but this is still a global market. As foreign grain demand shifts to other producers, our exports will increase. Couple that with increased foreign demand with fuel, inflation, fertilizer and seed prices, and I expect grain prices to rise exponentially as we exhaust winter reserves. A loaf of bread has doubled from this time last year and the price of canned biscuits, pizza dough, etc have more than doubled.

5 lbs of flour can make about 6 loaves of bread. 75 lbs should make about 90 loaves. A 5-gallon food-grade bucket holds about 33lbs and will keep for over a decade, just make sure to throw the flour in the deep freeze first to kill any weevils.

Throw some rice in the bucket 👍🏻

Good idea for even longer-term storage and wouldn't hurt. I don't plan on storing it that long though. Maybe a year or two at most as I plan to use it. I'm not doomsday prepping for a yet unknown event. I want to transition the way we eat and reduce dependency on mass-produced food products while hedging scarcity and price increases.

Sometimes plans change and the rice is cheap insurance.
