The stand is moved. It should be fun to video Mason from it but I couldn't find a suitable tree close to his. I'll be viewing from 100 yards or so. If I get an opportunity with the recurve, it will be close. I still don't know if I want to actually shoot something, but it will be fun to carry it.

Fantastic evening hunt!

I set up a stand yesterday so that I could hunt "with" Mason. It's about 100 yards east of the fencerow stand and should provide a decent view of the action he has. I should get some video too.

We hunted there tonight. I wanted to take the decoy, but Mason said not yet. Bad mistake, I think. The first deer we saw was a 130" 8. Mason texted, "Shooter" when he saw him coming across the field, so I assume his standards have changed to "just a nice deer". That buck passed by at 70 yards or so. Next I noticed three antlerless deer. Harassing them was the 130ish 9 that I let walk the other day. A short while later, they were joined by a dandy 10. I'd say he's 150" or so. The nine eventually headed towards Mason with me watching the show. He had told me via text that the 9 was not going to get a free pass from him this season. But, he did. He let that buck walk off without letting one fly, because he could see the bigger buck bringing up the rear! The big one passed by out of range. They hung out for a good while within 100 yards or less of Mason's stand until dark. There were several deer out in the fields as light faded, I'd guess a half dozen or so in total. I enjoyed the evening to it's fullest. We will be back tomorrow, and the decoy will be placed right in front of Mason's stand!

We about froze to death tonight. High winds mixed with rain made for a miserable sit. It slowed deer movement too, apparently. I saw four, Mason was able to see a couple from his perch that I was not, making his total 6. And of course, the two I could not see due to a treeline, were slammers. Well, one of them was. Mason knows this deer, he thinks. I don't have any pics of him this year, but last year I thought he was probably a 3 yr old and his rack was pushing 160 imo. Mason was pretty sure it was him, and is also pretty sure he would score close to 180. I didn't see the thing, but have been looking forward to him turning up. Mason, of course, came right home and penciled up a scetch since I couldn't see him in the field. We have been seeing a bunch of good deer in our honey hole, so hopefully one of them will give him a shot sooner or later. Sooner, preferably.

The picture is from last year. Mason is pretty sure this is the guy.

I don't know, Joe. Mason seems to still not be too quick on the trigger. Knowing this one developed into what he did, I hope the kid doesn't go back to "all or nothing". That makes for a long season for Ol Dad. And this farm isn't worth a crap in late season. I have no idea why, but it can turn completely barren late in the year. Hot a as a firecracker now, though. :) Hope he shoots something soon!

If he's drawing pictures I'm willing to bet he'll drop him if he's in range. Maybe not though, the boy does have the resolve of the pope. Lol

Oh yeah, if he gets a chance at this one he will be letting loose! Ha. He said when he saw how big it was he didn't think he'd be able to draw his bow. Haha.

I hope Mason gets a shot at him soon. Otherwise, ol Brock is in for it. I have a feeling that deer would give most of us tunnel vision. And we KNOW Mason is susceptible to tunnel vision. lmao

How great was it for me to get caught up with you two's hunting journal!:smiley_clap:

You both are seeing deer and nice ones every time out practically but are having fun doing it together! Hope it comes together for you both sooner rather than later but we'd miss out on more of your adventures together! Enjoy the season guys, it's just getting started! GOOD LUCK!!!:smiley_clap:
