Yep. I feel you Sgt.

I can't help but take random pics of our Otis. Losing two over the winter, plus Brutus several years ago makes me really appreciate him. Plus he is such a lover. Has become my shadow. Went to mailbox. Here he was awaiting my return. Then followed me down to basement office and lay behind my chair.

Otis is home. He knows he isn't going anywhere. Last night we had a bonfire. He let out a low growl and series of healthy barks. We don't get deer in the yard. Never. Neighbor had one on their septic mound though. I spotted a silhouette in the shadows. Barely could make it out. Nobody else could see it until I hit the spotlight. Maybe 100yds away. I was impressed by the alertness Otis had. Hoping it continues to improve and he lets us know more consistently when someone is in the driveway.

Edit: As I finished typing and got up to head back to the office. . . Daughter and Otis. He is seriously loved.

So yesterday was the day, before taking Piper we went for one last 4 wheeler ride on the back 40 where she attempted to track critters but could hardly stand, fed her bowl of ice cream with her sister and drank beer with her in garage like so many nights in the garage when we were boning out deer, cleaning fish, etc. On the way there she wanted ride with her head out the window but barely had the strength so I had basically hold her out while driving. Never shed a tear when my grandfather passed away, cried like a fuckin a baby the entire drive home. Buried her under a Maple tree where her sister stood and laid next to her in silence.
Next time any of you are having beer raise a glass to Piper Anne Sessler, a beer drinking, deer camp loving, 4 wheeler riding rebel from the South. A true man's dog.

So sorry to hear this. Sounds like a life well lived. It’s never easy but the price we pay for their friendship.
