Any suggestions on house breaking a jack Russell rat terrier mix besides patients? I've had 0 trouble with labs and would have said it's easy to housebreak a dog but this little shit is a challenge. We crate break at night until they prove themselves and use a bell on the door all other times. He won't shit at night but still will piss. He has to lay in it if he goes for the size of his crate is small enough I think. I read they r a hard breed to break? Any suggestions? Another vet check or just keep at it? He's definitely old enough now to get it.

Take the water away around 6-7 pm. Make it go out side until it does it’s business and then bring back in and too the crate.
If it’s a male is it marking territory at all?

Funny, I was going to suggest the same thing. You beat me 'TOO' it

That's what I have done with most of my younger dogs in their early years.

Great minds or just older and experienced 😂

Read somewhere (recently) where the amount of time in between letting them out can be gauged by the months they are old. 4 months basically equates too being able too hold it for 4 hours and so on.
I’ve always put them outside every hour at first then every couple hours after the first few months. If there’s any activity such as training of playing in the house I’ll let them out at the conclusion of it. wont guarantee no accidents but will definitely reduce them. Also if it isn’t fixed yet, do so. Regardless if male or female it’ll pay dividends the road.
Hope this helps.

No not marking. I'll try taking water away a little earlier. They eat around that time then play with kids outside. Go out just before bed.

Both our dogs (Shepherd and little mutt) come up too us and sit and stare at us. When we get up they’ll trot too the door leading too he backyard. We let them out when we wale up, when we get home from being out and when we go too bed. That’s on our schedule. Then whenever they let us know they wanna go out. Our shepherd likes too go out and just relax in the sun a couple times a day. She’ll watch the birds and squirrels going by and just stare them down, like if only I wasn’t i this fence. You’d be toast 😂😂😂

Little dogs in general are a royal pain in the ass to house-break. And Jack Russells, although one of the smartest, are one of the most stubborn breeds out there. Good suggestions mentioned above... Good luck with all that.

Small dog problems. We had a rat terrier until Fed Ex ran her over in the driveway. I’d never been so happy about a dog dying. She’d do the same shit. She would even piss on my side of the bed if she was mad at me. Never again will we own a little dog.

The little bastard doesn't seem to empty his bladder even when u know that dog surely has a major bladder full. Just keep trying I guess. My labs I've had, a few good scoldings a few treats and praise they were catching on to it. This thing is majorly testing us.
