First day of Retirement

Well, December 31st was my last day of work - I'm now officially retired.
Stayed up to watch the ball drop last night, then went to bed - my Fitbit watch showed I slept almost 7 hrs with a sleep score of 82 (good).
Anytime I'm in the 80's it's good.

Went to the grocery, then the grandkidsTO were over for lunch and an afternoon of wearing us out. They left before dinner, then we cleaned up and sat down to listen to the Ohio State game.

It's kinda surreal, not having to go to work tomorrow - or ever - tomorrow is just getting ready for muzzy and making a few phone calls.

My January is planned pretty heavy with hunting/travel/hog hunt. Just feels more like vacation than retirement. Will probably hit me in February.

I don't understand people who say "I don't ever want to retire...what would I do with myself? I can't imagine it....."
What the actual fu**? Don't you fish or hunt? Don't you have any hobbies? Ugh...

My wonderful wife, back when we first started doing our financial plan together, she encouraged me to plan on going out at 62 instead of 65 or 67 - she'd worked for years in long term care (nursing home) and had seen all kinds of crazy shit that can happen to folks health-wise - so she said retire as early as possible and enjoy as much of life as you can while you can. I'm thankful for her wise advice and her support. Turns out I needed to wait till 63 due to some situations, but we're there now, and I get to join the ranks of TOO retirees.

2025 - I'm looking forward to it.

Congrats Dan! So happy for you. You aren’t going to believe this but you will be busy for at least 6 months doing all the projects that you’ve always wanted to do and you are going to wonder how you had anytime to do yardwork/projects while you were working. Then one day you will have everything done around the house and will have all the time you want to do what you want to do. First couple months are hard because you feel like you should be at work and feel a little guilty for not “earning your keep”. Then you’ll realize that you already did…and will not feel bad for sleeping in. Now you can make those great breakfasts(that I’ve seen pics of at TOO events) for your wife several times a week. Enjoy your well earned retirement brother!

This is fantastic! Good things come to good people. I suspect more good is going from come to you than just being retired. I feel you are going to be rewarded with many blessings. Grandbaby time? Maybe some random TV appearances? Might take over for the Dos Equis guy as world's most interesting man.

Enjoy the heck out of it my friend! Happy hunting!
