i got the sickness

3 deer in one night... That's nuts man.. I can't begin to tell you what happened or why those deer had their heads down that low. Sucks.. But it's not the end of the world. I mean.. look at it a better way.. With the two yotes you snared already you'll save far more deer than the two incidentals you caught.. :) I think you should just figure out what's happening and try to snare more yotes while reducing incidentals.. A breeding pair of yotes kill a bunch of fawns every spring.

Wow that's just bad luck man, I wouldn't hang it up over that. Why in the world would those deer be hunkering down that low?? I wouldn't sweat it.

Concerned yes but give up no... I'd be more worried if you had the tough shit attitude but you seem sincere on the accidental catches take what you can from it move on and keep at it.... I know nothing of snaring other then what you guys on here have taught me and someone with a lot more experiance can way in and explain what can be done too try too remedy what has happened but it does sound crazy that'd they be having their heads that low and not feeding their way through.....

I am not going to begin to try to offer suggestions. Just my sincere "That sucks". The thing about many hunters is the irony. We can be cold blooded killers when we have a bow or gun in our hands. We think about nothing but antlers and dinner. Then something like this happens, or you see a fawn hit along the road and we can be the most compassionate and sissified guys out there. (Except JD. That dude is just a big buck killing machine. lol) Good luck if you change your mind and try to get back out there.

Rossbow, don't give up.....Adjust instead. You are not the only one this has happened to. I am not saying "so what about the deer" I can imagine your thoughts on this. Picture a deers head at the ground grazing and smelling, your snares need to be above this line. The book I gave Diablo says keep them 10 - 12" off the ground ~~ On deer trails, try the branch idea and make the yotes duck and deer go over. I just hate to see you quit after starting out so good! Best of Luck with your decision.

Dang, I hate to see that. I don't blame you a bit if you quit. I am pretty sure if I get a deer, I will be done too. So far, I have three or four kicked over by deer every time I check them. The deer stops have worked well when they have gotten their feet in them. I have set all my snares where I would picture a deer having it's head up, but it could happen, and like you when it does, I'm probably done.

Thanks for the input guys. Im done for the year got alot to do in march. Im going to do some more reach and get at them next year. For the most part it was fun.

Went out friday to check the snares that I still have out and had a coyote but it was gone most have got it by the foot. It had all the small trees chewed up and there was hair on the cam it was a lucky one. Here is a pi of a shoulder mount of the last coyote I got. Her back leg was messed up and was no good for life size mount.

Nice Mount Rossbow! Looks real good. Is it me, the pic, or does that Yote have two of the biggers ear's I've ever seen on a Coyote?

Very nice. Just read through this thread...good work! It's refreshing to hear a conscious driven sportsman, 'cause we all know that there are some bad apples out there!
