8 hours on stand today and 10 deer, 8 does and 2 bucks. The 8 point I saw tonight was cruising through my sanctuary. He's going to be a stud in a year or two. First 3 year old I've seen so far.

Moved my set at lunch 100 yards NW to a gap in between two thickets. It's a little higher on the ridge, but it's where all the deer have been traveling to or from. I have two great views.

The deer will cut across the opening heading towards/from 4 acres of thicket...

They'll work around the head of this ravine...

Got thick stuff on either side of me too. It's a 30 yards gap in cover, with these two views straight ahead and behind me.

I have time. I have access. I have good deer to hunt. What I don't have is luck. It's been a miserable career to date and today just adds to the disappointment. That said, I'd rather not chase a ghost and from what little I know of Matt, he's a good dude and I'd rather Daryl have fallen to him than a car, poachers, a coyote, old age or some of my asshole neighbors. Still doesn't endear me to out of state lessors, but you know. lmao

Maybe I should have shot him as a 3 year old. Certainly makes me rethink what I'm doing out here.

If you'd of shot him as a 3 year old, you would of missed out on a lot of things. So would of Matt… It happens man, it's why we chase these free range deer! I'm happy for the hunter and glad he let you know. He looks damn proud in that picture! Good for him, you can get another one… Just think about how you made another mans dream come true by passing that deer. Good luck Jesse, I'm rather certain you will have another dandy buck come through this season.

You "paid it forward" for that man… Now go get a 30 pack of ditch water and go get your hands on this deer! Smile and get us a story on how the hunt went down..

I like how you think Giles.

I'm 100% positive it's a lot easier to do from here, than Jesse's seat… Just trying to put a different spin on it. I'm not sure what I'd do if I was in those shoes. Probably be kicking rocks around the driveway for a couple days, then bitching because my toes hurt.

Shift focus they say. OK. I have another deer I'd like to kill on a different property. My honey hole. The one place I have good luck. Here he is in on my daughter's birthday...

And here is how he looks today...

Can a mother fugger catch a gotz damn break?!?
