Dj deer hunted public and didn’t see anything. Me and Hb wacked some woodies. Both boys hunted public and I hunted my place. Hb seen a fawn and I seen 4 does. Deer are on lockdown. Rut is in full tilt, will have the bucks looking around Christmas. Dj has to leave after the morning. I think we will all leave and go home for a day. Then head to south la to hunts some ducks for a couple days.

Think I’ve had enough of the camp believe it or not. Time to take care of some deer meat and do and look at something new. Plenty duck pics to come, check back Wednesday for pintails and canvasbacks along w different species.

Well the hunting in atchafalaya basin wasn’t stellar but we managed to kill a few.

Hunter got to the camp Christmas Eve night. Hunted the next morning and killed his limit of wood ducks.

I arrived around 2pm Christmas Day and we loaded up and hunted the property. I seen 9 does and he seen “lucky” our 9pt that is getting another year and a half rack 8pt. This morning I seen 3 deer and he seen 12. We did a card pull and left around 10:30. Looked at cards and didn’t see our target deer except for a nice 7pt. Loaded up and went on the wma to pull a cam that’s been out since he’d been up bow hunting. Nothing big on it so we loaded up and went back to the property. Got in stand and a bear came out.

Then Hunter sends me a video of him throwing a propane bottle out the stand window at another bear. Couple minutes later I hear him shoot. Get a text and it says the 7pt is a goner. He gets down right away to recover his deer and drag back to stand because of the bears. He text back “didn’t go 50”. I wait for a pic and finally get it and it’s the 7pt we said we needed to kill. Meanwhile I got does pouring out and a small deer chasing a doe in the crp. Finally they get out where I can see them and it’s a 1.5” spike. He mounts the doe and gives her the business. I know what you’re thinking, but…..but…. All the bucks breed does during the rut. Not just the mature ones. Anyway this is the second rack buck he has killed on the property, he has passed many but not this time.
