Had an early jug set last night before we got hammered by the storm. Despite the 10 knot winds and hard rain we managed 15 channels and finally a nice flathead. Cut herring and small live bream were the ticket last night with fish at various depths. The rain earlier this week has brought the surface temp down to around 86 with clarity holding pretty consistent. Glad i could put my friend Brandon on some fish for his first trip running jugs. Got to love that belly meat and cheeks from a flathead!!! Gonna be mighty fine.

Lack...with the amount of fish you catch, why don’t you let those big breaded fish go? Little ones taste better and you don’t seem to need the meat.

The comment “finally caught a nice flat” kinda stuck out to me. Like you haven’t caught many...then you killed the one you did.

Giles, the lack of me catching flatheads has been mostly from the location and style of fishing. The folks i normally take out want numbers and could care less about a flathead so i haven't been actively seeking them. The channels and blues are easier to catch down here mostly due to them prefering dead bait. Down here a 15lb flat is just a decent fish. There are triple digit flats down here for the reproducing. Rarely do i keep a fish over 10lbs but i will keep a bigger flat head once and a while for the cheeks which are a delicacy to us. I understand where you were coming from though and i could have worded it alittle different. Should have said i caught an accidental flathead on a jug.

I've tried explaining to guys up here how delicious flatheads are. Just lime zippering a walleye fillet clean, once you clean up flathead fillets, thay are every bit as good as walleye. Although I've never had blue cat, I have hears their meat is really white and flaky too. I dont mind channel cats if their smaller. They get a bit strong as they grow, which is why we always smoked any over 4-5lbs

The Lackster talking about getting the cheeks from shovel heads is new to me. Have had lots of walleye and saugeye cheeks, awesome little treats that i thought u only got on them. Have to try them some day. Only caught one shovel head, at hoover bass fishing with rubber worm.

Hit the same lake after work for couple hrs. Nothing for first hour then got 5 last hour. Got 2 smaller ones then two decent ones and then the biggest or close too biggest. One on jerk bait the other 2 on rubber worm.. Bass fished more in last few days then i have in last few yrs. If im able to make time to fish, its saugeye i go for, the prime time is on way for saugeye. Fall time the bite is on. There filling up for winter and hammer the jerk baits and swim baits
