Ricers 2013-2014 Hunting Haps and Mishaps

Well we got my tree stand out today and I am really stoked about this new piece of property. I am on a really good pinch point and I think there were 4 or 5 good trails funneling into the little hollow I am perched out in. It is really thick in there right now, which I know is the way it is this time of year, I really like the set up with just the way things lay out. There is a bedding area to my SE clear around to my SSW. There are a bunch of creek crossings but once you get to within 250 yards of my stand the deer have to make a decision.
1.Go S and travel the far creek bank, which is a thirty yard shot
2. Go N and travel the edge of the woods or go out into a power line right of way. Edge of the woods is 25-30 yards.
3.Continue to travel W and come right up the creek bottom, which is what a lot of deer are doing, and walk within 5-20 yards of my stand.
With the usual SW prevailing wind it will be an awesome place and if I get any wind from the NW to NE I have a backup plan that will involve the new climber I just got. I also saw a lot of old rubs from last year and years before.
I hung a trail cam about 300 yards to the E of my stand at a major creek crossing and I am anxious to get back out there Thursday or Friday to pull the card and see what is on the card. The deer are walking that creek bed a lot and I saw some really big tracks today. Things really worked out good for us because just as we were finishing up we began to get a pretty good shower. Gotta love that rain washing all that scent down. I did take some pics from my stand so y'all could see what I am seeing right now. Definitely getting the juices flowing.

This is to the N.
25 yards to the edge of the woods. Outside the woods is a power line right of way that cuts right across a huge alfalfa and clover field.

This is to the S.
Bedding area toward the top of the hill and 25-30 yards to the far creek bank.

This is to the W.
More bedding area to the top and a nice creek crossing in the bottom left corner that is 12 yards from my stand. Also a huge alfalfa and clover field about 200 yards on up the hollow.

This is to the E.
A major creek crossing leading toward my stand and up toward the bedding area also. This is the area where 3 trails come together in the creek bottom. That big creek crossing is 17 yards from my stand.

I feel for your wife right now don..i bet your a handful right now:D

That woman is a saint! It's gonna be a very hectic week and she will just take it all in stride. She is a great organizer and I would be struggling to get this all pulled together without her. I think I'll keep her. ;)

Nice looking tree stand pics TOO Don. Which wind direction is most favorable for you in that set?

Southeast, South, or Southwest will be the best winds. If I get a day with a bad wind I got my climber ready and a good looking spot for it. I can't wait until Friday so I can pull my first card this year. I know I'm getting a late start but with just finding out about losing the property I have hunted it took me a little while to get rolling again. I got the camera hung in a big creek crossing and I am going to hang another one Friday when I pull my card. I am going to hang it in a staging area where they are staging before heading out into the clover/alfalfa field. I got a 50# bag of apples I may take with me Friday. Any of you guys got an opinion on putting apples out now? Let me know what ya think.

Looks like its all coming together. I understand what you are saying about the wife. Mine is sort of like that as well. She could care less how much time I spend hunting and or fishing as long as I am available for the annual trip to hocking hills for her birthday. Unfortunately that always falls on the same day as the bow opener. Oh well, I get out for a brief morning hunt anyway, and I figure it's the least I can do for her understanding.
