The Exercise Thread

I've been working on deep stationery squats and balance exercises for about three weeks now. I'm also standing while working on the puter. A lot of positives have happened. My knee pain is subsiding and so is my lower back pain.

This ^^^. Same here, Mike.

The first time I did one of those deep, stationary squats, I actually found it a surprisingly comfortable position to be in. Now I try to do it at least 2-3 times a day. I think it really helps reduce tightness in the hips and lower back.

100%. I couldn't get down there for a week! Now it's no problem.

I'll note something here that I know and am mad at myself for overlooking/forsaking for so long, but the reduction in cortisol levels fhat good diet and exercise provide, makes a tremendous difference in your stress levels. I've never been under more stress than I am right now with my job and all the other things I'm involved with. The past two days have been marked by high stress, but a much lower response from my body. I've also cut FB out of my life due to the negativity around one of our projects and that's certainly contributing to the results. But shitty food and a sedentary lifestyle only compounds the stress us men feel in the course of our normal lives. My heart thanks me 😂

I saw this as a easy way to get stronger. I have no clue what month I started it in maybe late spring/ mid summer 2025, I began doing 1 set of 25 when I got out of bed everyday. That bumped to 30 pretty quick. Now 26 came I bumped to 40, and have been adding an evening set now and then. Guessing I could do sixty, but when I started this maybeva year struggled with the first 30.
This was hard to motivate to get done. It is in the mirror tho and let's hope for a better outlook on today!

My biggest struggle with anything working out or work I believe is recouping now. When Im feeling strong with no aches or pains I give it hell and do the same things I did at twenty years old. The following two days I feel like Ive been hit by a truck, it's hard to keep going feeling beat up.

Motivation is fleeting, discipline is the daily doing of the things you hate, like you love it.

At the end of each day, we choose what weight we carry and are willing to accept in our lives. Life is 50% pleasure, 50% pain. Why cut out half of your life just because your brain says it hurts? Learn to love pain. The weight of regret weighs tons, the weight of discipline weighs ounces. Turn down the brain and crank up the intensity. I promise you, your body will overcome, you just have to give it the opportunity.

100% If I only worked out when I felt like it, or when I felt good, or when I wasn't tired, or when it was warmer outside... you get the point. I've grown to embrace that challenge, and still do something damn near every day. Those days the gains aren't strength or cardio, they come in the form of mental strength, of discipline. And the rewards are like compounding interest, making the next day a little bit easier to overcome.

I do think I can understand why people work out before work. Not that A set of push-ups was life changing, but I can understand that if a person got uo every day to do this, how it could change your outlook for the day. You are in control of you from the moment you get out of bed. Not for work, not for the family, but to be a better version of you.

Disclaimer: My wife earned 80% more $ than me in 2025 and works much more stringent hours than I do (we both work 45-50 hours a week, but I can work anywhere at anytime, and she has to be on-site for her hours). I've also always been a good roommate 🤜🤛

This same concept is why the first thing I do every morning is make our bed. It's sets the tone for the day in terms of doing what needs done when it needs done. Within 60 seconds, I've accomplished something and I've grown to appreciate that simple task as a meaningful way to start my day.
