The Official Camper and Camping Thread

After reading a few pages of the other thread that Dave tagged me in, I came to the realization that there is a lot more to it than just buying a camper and hitting the road. I think the smartest thing I could do is to rent a cabin my first time out, and start looking at the campers that Toozers have out there. Ask questions (a lot) and go from there. I’ve towed enclosed trailers and boat trailers before, but it seems to be a bit more involved with a camper.

If you have an enclosed trailer they work good for a couple days camping in. You can even add a ac unit if needed. When you camp, you spend most of the time outside. Being solo this is the way to go. Load trailer full of goodies, arrive and unload some things and enjoy. Campers is used for sleeping just like a cabin. Yes you will lose some amenities but your camping, not staying at a 5 star lodge.

Everyone gets out of what they want to get out of a camping trip. Up to you to know.

We made a week long trip in Missouri a few years back. Rut hunt not far from Iowa. We pulled the enclosed trailer w all the gear. 2 of us set up tents and the 3rd buddy slept in trailer. Trailer was the best thing, I thought tent would be the ticket but it wasn’t. Nothing around to stay in, no motel near nor cabin. We camped in the parking area and walked in to hunt. Easy peasy.

That one unit I posted has everything one person could need....shower, shitter and bed. Even has AC, microwave and fridge. It’s also relatively inexpensive at ten grand. It would be great to have for when I retire to use at TOO gatherings and the occasional trip to north central Pennsylvania. Not ruling out getting one but as suggested earlier, I should just rent a cabin and check out the other setups at a gathering. I’d learn a lot talking to everyone before jumping head first into it. Towbars, fresh and gray water storage, how to hook up electric and water at the campsite, maintainance needed to be done, etc. These are things I’ve never done before so I think it would be wise to know what I need to do before purchasing a camper.

How’d the trip turn out?

What a great weekend. If you have kids and can afford to get away every now and then, you need a camper. Doesn’t need to be a big fancy thing, something the kids feel comfortable enough to sleep Good is just fine.

We got back home right at dark last night and I had a few things to take care of today. Christine is repacking while I’m out and about! Not even unhooking the truck, taking it out to Paint Creek. Kids start school Thursday but we aren’t ready to stop camping.

Alright, time to hang it up until it cools the fugg down. Kids had fun and they will be going to bed early tonight. We all had fun actually. Ended up being 4 family’s from maddys softball team and it was the first time many of them got to understand why the kids love me and I make them laugh. Two dads challenged me to drinking yesterday😂. I don’t know how many I ended up putting down total, but that 30 pack of Busch Latte didn’t have a chance! She gone...

Only issue of the weekend was I blew an intake elbow on the Furd. Not a big deal but I couldn’t find one in stock within a 2 hour radius. Got it home and I’ll do some research on to what my best replacement option is.

I'm in the market for a used camper.

So if you have one for sale or thinking of possibly selling, or anyone else you may know, please let me know.

Needs to have air and all the other basic necessities.

I'll be hauling it with a 3/4 ton pickup and 30 footer would be more than sufficient.

As far as my budget goes, it all depends on whether or not I can get any kind of a deal.

Appreciate any info you can send my way, thanks!
