Beautiful update John! Made me smile the whole time. Sounds like the kind of trip everyone needs to take with their Dad. No matter what their age.

Life’s short, and I don’t like planning, You miss out on finding the little things. I try my best at getting Levi out to experience and explore the outdoors, not always easy. He is 14 after all! one of my main goals is to make sure in 20 years Levi has plenty of stories and memories to tell as he’s sitting around drinking beer with his buddies.

I took K down to my dad's river lot this weekend and camped out with her while Tracie and Kenna were in NC. She was tired about 9:30 when my parents left, so I asked her if she wanted to go to bed or stay up around the fire. She chose sitting around the fire.

Looks like some great trips! Little advice needed. Heading south in July to explore smokies, then ashville, and some of the blue ridge parkway. Would it be worth it to spend an extra day or two to see new river gorge in WV? If so, any recs on where to stay? (Smaller popup w/Family of 4)
We are Smoky Mtn regulars. In my opinion, there is so much to do in the Smokies, I'm not sure it is worth it. Maybe if you are doing a couple weeks? If it is a week long vacation, I believe there is so much available I would not spend time setting up and breaking down camp. I would enjoy the Smokies the whole time. If New River is desired for the white water rafting. . .there are some rafting adventures to be had in the Smokies too. Not sure if they are comparable or not. Might be worth checking out. We enjoyed it when we rafted the Smokies.
Good stuff! Thank you. Maybe we should have booked more in the Smokies. Right now, 3 nights there (Cosby campground for more seclusion), then 3 nights in Asheville, then figure out way home...currently have 2 nights at rocky knob on the blue ridge parkway...thinking of taking that to 1 and adding 2 in new river gorge. We have a small setup so not a big deal for us to setup and tear down on long road trips
Next 7 of 10 weekends will be spent in the camper. A mix of family fun, bachelor party, TOO shoot, and BG Pulls.......slingshot, engaged!

I was set up on what I believed to be site 160. Two days after setting up, the campground called me to move my gear. Apparently I was on site 161. We packed up and moved to a motel. East harbor could do a better job of spelling out boundaries for sites. Please note I set up about as close to the parking spot and electric box marked 160 as physically possible.

Correct, and site 160 would be infront of that box and the other side of the parking area. You sir were parked on 160 and set up on 161. Electric hook ups on campers are on the opposite side on the entry.
Thats a bummer brock, hate to hear it. That said, its a simple mistake but East Harbor is one of the better laid out/marked state parks in my opinion.
As giles said above and i mentioned to the guys trying to figure out best sites at Paint Creek, the site is always to the left of the pad (looking at it), or to the right of the spot (if standing on pad, looking at the road). The box is the line for the neighbor to the left. All campers main doors are on the passenger side. Only within the last 5-10yrs have they added floorplans with a rear or driver side door for easier access.
