What do you guys do to light the chips? Just throwing matches in doesn't do it. I've used lighter fluid and let that smell burn off before putting my clothes near it. But, I figure there is a better way.
Hope this isn't a silly question, but lighting them quickly can be a pain.

I found the bst way to do it, which i stole from jesse is to buy one of those propane torches that have the trigger mechanism on it. Titl that the moker, pull the trigger and light the chips on fire. That makes it so much easier than trying to do it with anything else. The first time I used it I tried to do it with a lighter that you would use for like your grill or a candle ( the trigger ones) it would take forever.

The butane torch with the trigger is the way to go. plus you can switch the trigger to different bottles.

Bought mine at Menards. You can look in the plumbing section too. Same one I use to start our wood stove, and solder plumbing fittings with. Use it to thaw out locks as well when we are plowing at a business we have to unlock the gates to get in.

NtId like to find a store that sells oak wood chips or some where someone has cut some wood. I like hickory. But would like something different

How many you want?? If I get them to Jesse can he get them to you?? I ran off a 1/2 a 5 gallon bucket the other day. Hunter burned through all my chips and we needed more!! I like to get drunk and chop oak chips with the small axe. I hate the smell of hickory chips, oak is where its at!!

As far as lighting if you doan have a torch, build it like a small fire. I piece of crumpled newspaper, small chips, then some heavy ones.

I am a cheap fugger and do my own chips. I start with small and add some thicker before I get in the shower and leave the lid off. When I get out of the shower I PUMP IT, and add some bigger bark chip and close the lid. Smokes good!!

I have some apple bbq chips in a bag for my smoker. The maple chips i have been using are about out. I am noodling some oak out by the wood pile tomorrow. I am cheap too, and appreciate the suggestions.
