can't catch a break.
The woods I hunt has a bit of a bottle neck on the south west side. to the west is a cut beanfield that curves in and creates a narrow strip of timber between the field and a thicket that the does bed in. I cant hunt the actual bottleneck, but I can hunt the north part of it where it just begins to open back up into the bigger woods. I have good reason to believe there is a decent buck bedded to the south of the thicket. When I got to the area I noticed a couple fresh rubs, the only ones I have seen.
The plan was simple, If that buck wanted to scent check those does with a south west wind, he was going to have to come up through that pinch point and turn east, right in front of me, to get down wind of them.
At 4:42, I noticed something moving to the south west at the edge of the bean field....
.... A truck...
...Backing into the woods, right at the narrowest point of the bottleneck, about 60 yards from where I think that buck stays.
Fugg.
Guy gets out, walks around a little and sure enough, I hear a deer blow, and take off.
Half hour left of day light is a funny time to cut wood,
He cut up a big limb that was laying on the ground and loaded it up, it was 5:13 and I thought if he leaves, the deer might still come out. It has actually happened to me before. OH NO... The reason he cut that limb up is so he could back in even farther and cut a freakin tree down.
I was on the ground packing up my stuff when that tree hit the ground at 5:32,
Not only did that screw up the last, best hour of the hunt, but that tree fell right across the trail through that pinch point.
so much for that spot.
I don't know what I have done to anger the deer gods, but they seem to be quite upset with me this year.
