Yeah but I'm out of vacation days. I'm not retired like some on here :)

I'm rethinking my "retirement" status. These pizza eaters in this town are about to kill me! It's a good thing I can sleep in tomorrow, at least until the GSP decides I've had enough. Nothing like the four paw and one long tongue alarm clock. :)

I think we should lobby for party hunting in Ohio. The DOW wants 'em shot, and I like to shoot 'em. Seems reasonable.

can't catch a break.

The woods I hunt has a bit of a bottle neck on the south west side. to the west is a cut beanfield that curves in and creates a narrow strip of timber between the field and a thicket that the does bed in. I cant hunt the actual bottleneck, but I can hunt the north part of it where it just begins to open back up into the bigger woods. I have good reason to believe there is a decent buck bedded to the south of the thicket. When I got to the area I noticed a couple fresh rubs, the only ones I have seen.

The plan was simple, If that buck wanted to scent check those does with a south west wind, he was going to have to come up through that pinch point and turn east, right in front of me, to get down wind of them.

At 4:42, I noticed something moving to the south west at the edge of the bean field....

.... A truck...
...Backing into the woods, right at the narrowest point of the bottleneck, about 60 yards from where I think that buck stays.

Fugg.

Guy gets out, walks around a little and sure enough, I hear a deer blow, and take off.

Half hour left of day light is a funny time to cut wood,
He cut up a big limb that was laying on the ground and loaded it up, it was 5:13 and I thought if he leaves, the deer might still come out. It has actually happened to me before. OH NO... The reason he cut that limb up is so he could back in even farther and cut a freakin tree down.

I was on the ground packing up my stuff when that tree hit the ground at 5:32,

Not only did that screw up the last, best hour of the hunt, but that tree fell right across the trail through that pinch point.

so much for that spot.

I don't know what I have done to anger the deer gods, but they seem to be quite upset with me this year.

Karissa and I had an encounter tonight at 5:10 with a respectable 8 point that came in on us fast. I got him on film and told her to get ready and prepare for a shot. I grunted him to a stop at 28 yards quartered away and he stopped. I heard the safety click off and zoomed in some. She shot a just missed him perfect height but out in front of him barely missing his brisket. After viewing the video we saw that his right g3 was busted off.

She is soooooo fired up right now I can't believe it!!! :pickle:

She said she's willing to get up earlier and hunting longer till she kills one....I tatered her!:smiley_coolpeace:

Dante shared some of the frustrations and Ric shared some of the rewards of deer hunting. We all share a love/hate relationship with this whole deer hunting thing, don't we? lmao

Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

Finished out a all day sit with Huck. We saw a total of 6 deer the closest being about 60-70 yds out. Had a combine running corn off all day long. I can't believe that it didn't push any deer into the woods.

Been up for an hour trying to get a grumpy outta the way so I can all day sit. Two days with minimal sleep...I may just end up napping midday in my stand. Thank goodness I hung the Millennium.

I'm up and blowing mud. I'm sitting as long as I can today, then I'm probably done until next weekend. Tomorrow is not for to hunt in, but I will check cams and maybe hang a stand or two. Need to get myself ready for late season too.

Good luck. The boys and I are going squirrel hunting in our woods. I've got a bunch of trees to get in the ground too.

Pulling out to go climb over a cut corn field. Hunting till noonish and then a b-day party then back to the stand after that. That in its self will finish my lack of rutcation.

Welp, this is my last chance until next Saturday. Hunting the clear cut this morning. Wind out of the SSE is good for it and have seen two shooters there. Good luck to everyone!
