I saw momma and 2 young ones last night, this morning I seen a small buck pushing a doe and watched a doe run across two soy bean fields and nothing ever followed up behind her. Boys basketball practice tonight and then back in the woods in the morning. Mike you can tell your buddy that he just jinxed himself by passing on that nice 8.

Hunting over a turnip plot on too if oak ridge. Prime spot nothing yet tho. Passed a real good 8 here last year. He was probably 120. So I'm hoping a buck shows up. If not ill hunt here all day tomorrow.

Good luck to everyone out there tonight. Raining like crazy up here in NCO!

Brock, for a man with no deer, you have more action than any of us!!

HAD no deer. Keep in mind I was ahead of the curve seeing the decline due to the low deer density in that county to start with. Therefore, on this property, and with the help of the landowner, I'm also ahead of the curve on the rebound. It's a good position to be in for now. Funny thing, after yesterday morning's sit, I stopped to talk with one of the landowners in the area. His property adjoins the property I am hunting. He has lived there since the mid-50's. He told me how they used to have thousands of pheasants, etc. and finished up with "I don't even see any deer anymore. We used to have them in the yard all the time". I told him they were on their way back IMO, and he said he hoped I was right. A portion of his income comes from the crops grown on his land...and he'd like to see more deer.

I would also venture a guess that I am looking over far more land than most. If I were to only count deer that were within 100 yds or so (as I would see if I were hunting in woods), the number I saw this morning would be 2. Most I see are a LONG, LONG way off. Its by choice that I hunt outside of the woods. I like to see deer, and I don't mind if I only see them at a distance. I also do not spook any trying to march into a woodlot stand pre-dawn. It's a good tactic that usually pays off given enough patience.

I did end up staying on stand an extra 30min after my last post. Dang white german shepherd came thru running the fence rows. Figured I better stick around as it might have helped me out by getting deer moving. It didn't. Well, if it got them moving, it was probably 10miles away from me.

Hebbardsville..
Opted to do a ground hunt tonight. Overlooking a nice bottom with the wind in my face. Let out a few soft grunts and now I'm just waiting. You never know.

Rain moved in with about 20 minutes of legal shooting light.... I slid quietly out of the stand and did a slow still hunt back too the truck... Nothing moving tonight at all.... Barely a squirrel moving....

Hopefully this rain moves thru by dawn and I'll be back at again tomorrow....
