Lots of good memories in that rig and stories with OU college football players and coaches most would never believe.

PA Deer camp with OU cheerleaders would make a better story....just say'n. ;)[/QUOTE]
Here’s a short video clip of the OU cheerleaders at camp....

Nice looking new ride Triple! Maybe in a few years I'll pick up a new (4-6yr old) truck for myself. I'm not dropping $50-80k on a truck. Can't do it. Not knocking anyone who does. I just cannot personally do it when most of our rental properties are in the $30-60k range and actually make us money. A new truck won't make me anymore money than a used one.

You listed headaches, stress raising purchases. Peace of mind is worth something to some. You can have your properties, I’ll take a truck that is worry free with a warranty. That is worth it to me. Keep an older truck around for the actual work😂. Plus it feels good to sit in a heated seat in the winter and cold seat in the summer.

I feel the same way. I didn’t want to pay it but figured if it last me 20 years it will be my last purchase. Every year they are 5k more. I was being out priced from ever owning another real soon. My older truck gets a note or two put in it every year. At some point you have stop the bleeding. Yesterday I dropped 800$ in it. I paid 61k loaded and it was best deal I could find in two years. Felt like I did ok but left feeling raped w a torn bunghole lol. I will retire in 4 years and we plan on traveling the country along with oos hunts and 4 hour trips to camp. In the end it was a want and a need so in my mind I could justify the purchase. Looking forward, dependability outweighs spending the money.

I get it. I completely get it. Like I stated, not knocking anyone or their reasoning for it. Those are valid points. I simply struggle to do it. Maybe some day that will change. It is a beautiful truck Triple.

Nice!

$13 Clay, not a crazy stupid cheap price, but a good enough buy that I bought it and feel good about it.
That is a great deal to me, anytime you can buy a one owner car that adds lots of value to the car to me, becuase you have a better chance of knowing what you are getting.

and I do love my Tundra.

It was somewhere around 1983or 84. It was fall. I was living in Youngstown going to collage. Average drive time from Ashtabula to y town was 50 min. It was SR 11. Straight farmland most the way. My record was 32 min and I was going to try and break that record that day. I was headed north bound...

The first trooper was headed south. I saw his break lights and bar lights come on but I just dropped the hammer thinking I would just catch the next exit and take the back roads home but at 100mph, the exit came up to quick and was to bendy to slow down so I gave it more pedal.

The second one happened to be rolling down the entrance ramp as I went by. Had he not seen my plate, I would have never been caught but he was to close. I shut her down and prepared myself for some shit...
Back then, they would have you come back and sit in the front seat while they wrote ya up. He just walked up and finger motioned me to come back. I had crossed into another county so the south bound trooper never did show.

We sat in silence for a while.
No priors. Nothing so he was fixing to start the lecture ( I was sure he would be bragging about later that day to his buddies) when I broke the silence by pointing at his dash radar blinking “136” and asked “what’s that”?

It was at that point he kinda blew up and started raising his voice “you know goddam well what that is!!!”

30 min later he was looking under the hood saying he hoped it wasent stock cause his son just got a
Newer one of these. (It was far from stock)

In the end, I said I was late for a wedding I was best man in. ( showed him the tux in the back seat ) and swore I was putting it up for the winter.
He was cool by then. I had played the game and he won. ( one of the very few.) He ended up writing me up for 75mph in a 55 zone under the condition that if he saw that car on his beat (rt 11) before the spring thaw, he would write me up at the 136 even if it was in a parking lot.

True to my word, I put it up for the winter and drove the beater all winter.

To me it seems the sheriff’s and trooper’s were of a different mindset in the late 70- 80’s
I have a number of friends in law enforcement now and they agree. The cat/ mouse game was kinda more just that with the locals. You outran em then, you won. They got your plate or you messed up an left the road. They won and threw the book at ya.
Times are different now.
I’m also smarter now.
And old...

I should note I NEVER drank and drove. I never smoked and drove. I took the road racing very seriously back then .

Seemed like a good idea at the time.

I remember helping a friend swap motors in his Z28. It was late by the time we finished bolting on the intake and carb. Got the distributor in and tightened all the important shit down. All that was left was the rubber boot that the stick shift goes through and the hood. Now was customary to take a hot lap around the block without the hood after such a big job so I screwed the shifter knob on, threw the rubber boot in the back and and we backed out on to the road for our lap.

Now I said I did not “drink and drive” above
But we had 1 beer to split between the two of us as we took that lap. (The only one of the night)Part way into the test drive he felt the timing was a little off and pulled off the road in some business parking lot, hopped out, loosening the clamp and slightly adjusted the distributor and tightening the clamp holding it to the block, and off we went. No crazy take off or lighting up the tires (yet) . Just listening to the motor. We were only doing 45-50 mph when A cop rolled up on us from nowhere. Buddy was worried about our “open container “ so he kept driving a bit .. he got the bright idea to poor the still mostly full beer down the hole where the rubber boot would have been which he did while still going the speed, then pulled over...

The sheriff said no you weren’t speeding but did say he smelled beer. We denied it.
He just gave the driver and I a dirty look and told us to get out of the car and come back to his.

As we approached his cruiser, we could smell it. The beer had splashed down the bottom of my buddy’s car and then all over the cop car following us.
We came clean. Blah blah blah just put the motor in/ “victory lap” yards yadda yadda. We were sitting on towels so as not to get grease on the seats. Hardly cracked it open ...my friend begging for a break. The cop dragged it out, searches the car finding the single can but said he would give us a choice. Take the ticket for open container or he would follow us down the road to the hydro spray car wash and wash his cruiser off.

We just had enough quarters between us and the console to make the sheriff happy.
