We're up on a high set of ridges and always a couple degrees colder than in the valley - the last couple weeks has seen 12-14" of snow and 10" on the ground and not melting.
Topped off the Boss Buck with 120# of golden acorns at 13F - Not supposed to get above freezing for the extended forcast and has been blow freezing with solid snow pack for over a week. That's it for the big furry bastards this season - they'll have to make do until the rye starts growing again at 37F soil temps. Checked traps for the last time and set them off, done with that until next season as well.
Love that zoom IPCam it was just prior to first light, not Nautical Twilight and the capture and aperture response to the artificial light works well, that's a 40 yard, 120' distance from Camera to feeder.

Just dumped a bucket of walnut hulls I collected throughout the season to get the deer some winter feed and collect inventory!!

Yes it is. Could probably do it now, but I usually do it the end of this month or so. This year I don't have any plots that need done.
How did your plots end up this fall? I don't remember seeing them after the last time you sprayed them.

They did well. I will probably spray them again this year. Don't think I have any pics.
Today we made the connection with the local herd. Feeder was put in place on 12/20/20, 70yrds out the back door. It has been slow since, and only within last week or so have they discovered that we aren't going to mess with them and started to show in daylight. No doubt the weather has helped. Today they spent almost an hour milling around within eye sight while cooking for the Supwr Bowl.
Step 1 complete......got em thinking "Notta Lotta Acres has food, we should atleast check out what they have today".

With all the snow on the ground and more coming, this is when I get concerned about food and wildlife. We have been putting out corn, black sunflower seeds and bird feed for about a month. Thinking I need to step it up a notch! Like fill the truck bed.
I know straight corn this time of year can kill a deer not used to it.
Do you do anything when it's like this?

If you’re putting food out for turkeys, make sure they have access to grit. If they don’t have grit in their crop to help crush the food, it can kill them. I’ve heard of major turkey kills in Pennsylvania caused by people trying to help out the wildlife by putting out food and the turkeys dying when they didn’t have access to grit.
Turkeys are stupid. Who would feed them on purpose? We don't have them in my area anyways.
Topped off the feeders and added an Apple salt block to 3 different locations. Cameras show a couple smaller bucks have lost a horn. Most big ones are still holding (unless they lost both sides) Didn't look really hard at the deer heads.... just scanned for single antlers...

The deer are hitting my minerals more in the last ten days then they have in the last two months. Getting multiple pics at all times of the day. Going to replenish when I come out there for turkey season.
