What do you do for a living?

After years working for the Georgia Department of Corrections back in august 2017 i jumped ship and joined on with the Banks county Georgia Sheriffs Office. Six months in i made Sergeant in the jail which was a blessing. Our policy says you have to spend 24 months working in the jail before you can go through the police academy. Because i made Sergeant i get to go through starting july the 6th. 11 weeks of that and im going straight into scuba certification to become a certified rescue diver. When my contract is up we are moving to panama city beach and with a little luck i can get on beach patrol and have my diver certification too boot. I could have taken a faster route to get through the academy but i would not have been able to take the extra training courses i have been able to. I graduated as a basic tactical operator this year which was a tough course that i earned through alot of blood, sweat, and scars. Earned my patch from Gwinnett county rapid response team that i wear on my bag with pride. I love their slogan " EXECUTE WITH EXTREME VIOLENCE". Just a tattooed knowledge hungry 27 year old man trying to make my way in the law enforcement community.

I pick up the slack for J since he retired, lol. Although he turned wrenches at the base, while I teach the fly boys how to survive. Been a USAF SERE Specialist for 9 years now. SERE stands for survive evade resist escape. We go to Ravenna Arsenal and do our Combat Survival Training 3 or 4 times a year, so that's an added bonus!

And scout deer in the process 🦌🦌🦌🦌👍🏼

Independent Contractor/Consultant & Business Owner of a Technical Company since 2,000.

DataVision Consulting, LLC

For the last ten years I’ve traveled the entire country converting both private small & large cinema movie theaters, mid to large corporate cinema movie theaters such as the ‘The Majestic, AMC, Bowtie, ect, ect – from old (70-100+) 35mm film projectors to new state of art 4k/Real 3D/Digital Movie Projectors, Digital Dolby HD Audio Theater Systems & any size projector screen installs. I’ve also done several installs for college campus universities, business executive board rooms, corporation meeting rooms and wealthy private home owners wishing to have high end quality audio/movie theater systems installed.

The Hollywood movie industry made a huge change that required all theater owners to convert from film to digital projectors for a slew of reasons and the conversions needed to be completed by a certain date back in 2013. The two biggest driving factors are increased revenues for Hollywood organizations/distributors and a more robust security protection for proprietary content/property.

I’ve converted most of the historical movie theaters up & down the entire east coast within major cities and small towns. Others throughout the entire country TOO. From coast to coast - border to border! I did two Sundance theaters for Mr. Redford - one in Texas and the other in downtown Hollywood, Sunset Blvd. I’ve done one in Ontario, Canada and one in the Bahamas. I’ve worked pretty much in every major city throughout our country. I can’t tell you how many miles I have under my belt, but know it’s a lot!

Anytime I’ve gone to a new town/city to do a conversion, I usually have been approached & interviewed by the local news reporters. At times it would consist of both TV & Newspaper. I have met some famous celebrities & movie directors along the way during some of those travels & installs.

I’ve done well capitalizing on the demand for theater digital conversion. My wife has traveled with me many, many times throughout. Sometimes to help, but mostly to go shopping and/or site seeing depending on where we were at during that time.

I’d often hired a couple of local laborers to help with the grunt work. So, I’ve employed many individuals across the country during those years.

I’m a network/electrical engineer by trade.

I have an associate degree in computer science & business management from Columbus DeVry University. I also have several other training accomplishments through other technical courses/schools. Most of my experience however, came from my military years and working for one of the largest Drug Research, Manufacturing & Pharmacy companies of the world for a little over 10 years as a 'Corporate Regional Technology Manager of Operations' early in my career. I also have done some local, state and federal (military) government projects right after leaving corporate America. Additionally, I’ve done work for private companies as well.

In 2015, I helped move the east coast datacenter for MLB (Major Baseball League) to Omaha, Nebraska.

When my boys were teenagers and old enough to work, I created another successful lawncare/tree snow removal service business for them, so they could put money into their pocket and appreciate the value of being your own boss. At that time, I employed 12 other individuals for approximately six years. I ended up selling that business back in late in 2014 with 75 clients shortly after my youngest went off to college.

Today, I mainly do consulting work, service calls, remote online support work or over the phone support, but occasionally I still must travel. Typically for any client that needs new hardware/software upgrades, hardware maintenance, audio tuning and/or hardware troubleshooting for any failures.

Below are a few photos of a few cinema theaters & projects that I’ve done along with an article that I could find that’s still available online. It’s a good article to read if you wish to get an idea what’s involved to some extent. Many of the others I believe have been purged or achieved somewhere since 90% have been converted before the end of 2013.

I hope to retire completely in about 10 years. I love staying busy. As my Old-Man would say back in the day, “It’s good for heart and soul”.

Are the boys interested in taking over the business Denny?

No!

However, both have inspiring aspirations of working for themselves - thanks to dear old dad ;)

My youngest is in his second year at Ohio University studying & majoring in Business Management.

My eldest is currently in his last year of college at the University of Cincinnati. For the past three years, as part of his internship for his major, he’s been working for ‘HBO’ based in downtown NYC.

As I have done many times already, I helped pack up my son’s personal items and moved him back to NYC from Cincinnati, Ohio two days ago. A 1,150 mile - 19 hour round trip for me, but hey, that’s what dads’ do - right?

I’m happy to report that he’s doing extremely well in his field of work. The following are some of the recent trip photos and some public information regarding some of my eldest son’s accomplishments within the show buzz industry. He’s made several small independent films and one of them has been recognized within the industry for his efforts.

Please feel free to checkout his website. You can navigate through some of his works if interested in graphics, films, photography and videography. He recently made another video for a music band that has landed him even more big opportunities.

You can see that off his website - http://justindonaldson.co/ 2

The film that he made and help direct, which won him the best independent short film of 2017 at one of the film festivals.

Award info can be seen from his website - http://justindonaldson.co/videography/#/all-you-can-eat/ 1

Yes, you can say that I’m very proud of him and his brother, very much so! Both have a very bright future ahead of them.

Yes, that’s what we dads do for our kids lol.... I enjoy helping them out as my folks weren’t in a position too and had shortened lives so they missed our adult being parents era...

Sounds like both your boys have good heads on their shoulders kudos too both you and the Mrs....

I sort of wish you hadn't posted all that Wildlife. I'm feeling a bit. . .inadequate. Quite an adventure you've had. Way to be a good example for the boys. I'm self employed as well. Today started with tearing out damaged tiles in one of our rentals as one of my employees was painting. Proceeded to lunch, met with a guy to sell an equipment trailer, and back to the rental. Left the rental to check on a sewer gas smell at a commercial property we maintain. Then off to our youngest son's first high school soccer game. After the game I handed him $100 for his efforts in painting the trailer I sold. Overpaid? Probably, but I got a bit more out of it than I anticipated. He also needs to learn the value of work and the dollar, as well as earn money for a school band trip. My point? While my "job" requires many hats, my number one job is to be a good dad and teach the kids there are many ways to make a dollar and earn a living. Sounds like you have made that a top priority as well! Good man. Keep posting. You are definitely a good fit on TOO!

Sorry to hear, however I know exactly what you mean. I lost my mother & father when I was 15 due to a drunk driver. It was a tough time for me & my two younger brothers back then, but we all made something of our lives as I'm sure the dear lord had his reasons.

I tried to fill the gap as best I could for my sons. My wife's family really stepped up in that regard.

Thank you for kind words. Appreciate it!

You fellas have some interesting jobs. I worked in a sheet metal production shop from age 18-42. Lost my job and tried my hand at what I really liked to do. For the last 24 years I "hustled junk", mostly fishing tackle. I did fairly well at it and it sure beat punching the time clock. Met some great folks and have shipped lures, rods and reels all around the world. This is a small sampling of what I still have on hand.

That’s awesome Dick! Love old fishing junk. I was just telling my wife the other day that I needed to start hitting garage sales for man cave items. She laughed “you have enough junk you don’t use already”
