Don't know if it still works today but 25 years ago, a video camera got me permission to hunt a lot of good ground. Back then, I rarely asked for permission to hunt up front, just film. Once I got some footage of turkeys from the landowners property, I would always offer to dub them a copy and that often lead to permission to film hunts.
In 1993, I filmed 18 kills in a 1 bird limit, 21 day season. Ohio really does have great turkey hunting!

The first Tom I ever killed was brought to me by a hen. I got in my spot nice and early and set up a 2 hen/1 jake decoy set. I had birds come off roost and walk with in 40 yards of me right at first light, but they paid me no attention. The birds worked thier way up hill onto a knob in a cattle pasture. I was able to watch them most of the morning. Finally at around 9:30 they started to work back down the hill. When this particular hen saw my set up, she ran into it cutting and yelping the entire way. A jake followed close behind, and the Tom came running in in full strut. It was a long 3 hours of watching those birds, but staying put and being patient paid off in the end.
:smiley_bril:..I was taught 25 years ago how to run a Box call by an ole timer...This ole timer had turkey feet stapled to his basements walls from end to end..must of been 500 or so...He taught me the basics and I fine tuned it.
The best thing any younger fellow can do is to listen to the ole timers and gather as much info from them as possible..I know..i always did.
If you weren't so full of yourself, I might listen. I have no problem listening to my elders and know all TOO well how valuable the information is that comes from those who have been there and done that. But then again, most elders I know don't pound their own chests like a caged gorilla either...

This is the final few minutes of Gobblemania 1. The bird in the last hunt sorta’ came and went. We had just pulled into a piece of WNF and ran into a couple DOW guys who were on their way out. They said they had raised a couple birds but couldn’t do anything with them.
My partners in the video were my mentors into turkey hunting. The guy on the left, Mike Wren, was killing turkeys back in the early 70’s when only a handful of hunters were successful each year.

It doesn't seem that long ago until you see how things have changed...like the shape of ball caps, eye glasses, etc. Funny, at the time how things from 20 years prior looked so weird...like black rimmed glasses, and flattop haircuts, skinny neck ties.
The turkeys still look the same.
We had enough footage in the can back in 1993 to make a Gobblemania III but never got around to it. We planned to call it "Meet the Gobblers" as a play on "Beatlemania" / "Meet the Beatles". After that, all the video I shot went to Hunters Specialties.
If I had a means of playing Hi8 video I would download some really neat stuff...somewhere in a stack of tapes I've got a strutting gobbler that drags his wing over my boot and footage of a roosted bird strutting on the branch when I accidentally set up underneath his tree in the preseason.
