They are locked down on the place I'm hunting. I saw two dandies with does in the middle of a huge cut cornfield. They didn't move all morning.

No don't say that brock! lol my 10 days of hunting starts tomorrow morning. You're on the western part of the state right?

Saw 8 tonight, but movement was slow. Could have shot 7 of the 8, and the one I couldn't shoot was a shooter. White racked tall 8. No TC pics of this deer, could have been a one time chance.

Didn't see anything except an injured or 3-legged black cat.

Brock, per F&S's rut map, SW Ohio is nearing peak rut, while the rest of the state is in chasing/seeking stage. Could it be?

There is no doubt in my mind that we are smack in the middle of lockdown on the propert I'm hunting. I just figured there was enough does in heat to tie up the good bucks right now...and very few of the other does are moving. The little bucks I saw today all had that "depressed with no chance of getting laid" look about them. They weren't high-stepping as they were a few days ago. The next round of good smelling does is what I'm hoping for, and it should be in the next couple of days.

I'm over in butler county, hopefully they're not locked down. I'm headed there tomorrow so guess we'll just see what happens!

I learned something new tonight..... Deer and beavers don't get along very well.....

I guess just when you thought you've seen it all something else comes along and makes you think WTH???!

Doe came down too the creek edge too cross and then all of a sudden started snorting up a storm while staring at the water.... All of a sudden out of nowhere there's the unmistakable slap of the tail..... Doe jumps back on the bank and trots off into the horizon..... Leaving me there shaking my head.....

That was it for my day.... One doe and a beaver for the afternoon lol....

Dark to dark today for me. Been awhile since I have done one of these. Got really sluggish in the middle. Got down froze to death just about noonish. Took a leak in the creek. Decided I wasn't so cold after all by the time I got the climber down out of the tree with all my gear. Had watched two small bucks cruising a field edge from my tree in the morning but would not have a shot. Decided since I was warm again, I would just move to another tree closer to the field edge. So I moved about 15yds and climbed up a different tree to hunt until dark. Bet the squirrels thought I was crazy. Well. . . I know it is debatable but I am not. It proved to be a good move. Had a hot doe come in late. She had a buck in tow! WooHooo!

The buck was Muley.

He put on some more tine length on the g2 and g3's since these pictures. Narrow rack, but decently tall. I was guessing 8-9" in hard antler. Respectable mass. Unfortunately, I had way to much time to look at him. Angel on my shoulder said to pass. Devil on the other shoulder was chanting "KILL HIM!" Angel won. I think he will end up 120-130" as a typical 8pt with the split g2 on the left side making him a 9pt. In the end, I am just not so sure he is even a 3yr old deer. I bounced back and forth while he and the doe he was following did 2 complete 360's around me at 15-25yds. Truthfully I think they were looking for a place to bed down but the doe was unsure of me.

Amazing hunt! The switch has flipped in this area! I am psyched!
