So...there I was, minding my own business when this slut showed up without any kids. Haha
I decided a few days ago that my best plan was to hunt by the one apple tree in the area. There's a nice little saddle between a couple of oak flats and I knew I could find a spot in that saddle. Anything that showed up would be in range so I had to be ready at all times. Started the trip just enjoying the day and smoking my gear real good.
Eased my way in because I've seen deer bed in this saddle multiple times. Found a good spot with a big walnut to my back. Cleared the leaves and got good and settled in.
Sat there for a couple of hours watching squirrels and a couple of chipmunks do their thing. My ass went numb and I had to get up and move around. That's when I seen her! Broadside at around 30 yards with no possible shot.
I eased my way back to sitting down and got ready. She took her time, as I watched her for about an hour. She never offered me a good shot in that time. Finally she was within feet of me and I just couldn't take it anymore so I took a shot I normally wouldn't. Having faith in my equipment really went a long way today. Shooting before I left also helped in having faith in myself. I sent one in her right above her shoulder expecting it to exit right next to her sternum. It hit the mark and I could clearly see the fletchings sticking out.
She did a major jump and ended up over the old cattle fence that kept cattle away from the cliff...then she ran right into the fence and it bounced her stupid ass off the cliff. Pretty sure I said "FUGG" out loud at that point. Knowing she was hit hard I didn't waste any time trying to make a plan on how I was going to get her out.
Took my gear back to the truck and put my boots to work. Found her just off a hiking trail straight under from where I last saw her. Wedged under a log keeping her from sliding any farther.
Hiked back out to get reception and find some help getting her out. Being that she was only about 120 yards from the truck, it would've been great to have some ropes to get her back up that cliff. But noooo way would it be that easy. We fumble fugged around the entire county to get her out! I was thankful that I had help but kinda wish I just quartered her out on the spot. Either way, she's in the fridge now and I'm laying in bed.
