I know this is off subject a little bit, but it’s a damn shame some of the shit we make people live with. Should be able to put them down like our loved pets. When enough is enough and quality of life is gone...it’s the right thing to do.

Anyways, good luck Hank!

Not so far off. I know I shouldn't feel this way but I value my dogs higher than some of the people I've met.

I don't believe he is in major pain. I'm crossing my fingers for a UTI over a tumor. Yesterday and today you wouldn't know there was a thing wrong with him. I don't feel the end is near. Just a bump in the road as he is aging.

Some of you guys witnessed Lulu do this at Strouds. I busted her stashing a bone out back the other day. This morning I gave her a leftover sausage link and she ran around the yard for 5 minutes exploring hiding spots. She eventually cached it at the base of the tree. She scoops and tamps with her snout and is really good at covering her tracks. I barely noticed the bone and wouldn't have if I'd not seen her bury it. Never had a dog do this before, so it's funny to see. Straight up farm dog!

Funny to watch indeed! Betty does the same shit... Give her a rawhide bone and first thing she does is stand by the door with it and whine, wanting outside to go bury it. We gave her one for Christmas and we wouldn't let her go outside because it was so wet. About 10 minutes later I catch her up on the couch, burying the bone in behind the cushions! 😂

We had to have Hank out down tonight. Started to fill up with fluid again. Labored breathing. Drooling. Couldn't pee. They gave him a heavy round of lasiks. Still didn't pee. Took an x-ray. So full of fluid they couldn't see anything. Could barely hear his heart due to the fluid. Pulses were weak. Suspect his heart was failing. He was 10 but that seems short. He was running and playing daily. We thought he was on the mend and good to go.

One funny moment at the vet as I tried to lighten the mood. I told the kids he could hunt down all the cats he wanted to in Heaven. Graci said "doesn't sound like much of a Heaven for the cats." To which I replied "it will be the cats that didn't deserve it and tried to cross the gates. He will be the cat gate keeper." That ol boy sure did hate cats. Lol

One thing I know you can all relate to: digging that hole never gets easier. Covering it back up is even worse. RIP Hank.

Sorry Phil. It’s a horrible thing to lose a friend and our dogs, particularly good one like Hank, become friends if not family.

Sorry to hear this. I’m sure your dog lived the best life he could’ve had. Being a responsible owner is the hardest thing. Go get another pup soon. I told myself after losing my last that I wouldn’t do it again. Two years later I’m happy as a mother fucker w my new partner.

If I reply "eff you" on your threads about Chubbs. . . .don't take it personal. It will be my way of choking back tears. 😊

I enjoy following them. He looks like a good one too! Not sure I'll be getting another one anytime soon. As much as we loved Hank, not sure when we will be ready. GSP is a fantastic breed though.

Just a few pics of Hank. One of them is the first deer he recovered. I don't think the guy would have found that deer on his own.
