Thanks fellas. I had to work for a couple hours and wife texted me that should couldn’t call the vet. I told her if she wanted to wait that is up to her. She told me to call, got a visit for 3. It’s 1:16 now. Hate this shit but it’s the only downside to having a dog.
It’s a sad day but a day that’s needs too be dealt with. Sucks too see it come but we’ll all be there eventually....
Sorry man, it’s obvious to know that you and your family treat these “pets” more like family.

Thanks and yes, I think we all do. People that never had a dog is truly missing out on something very special. To be honest I wasn’t happy years ago about the wife getting a little dog, but my opinion changed quickly just the same as any loved one. I had the whole vet upset, crying like a damn baby. All dogs do is love unconditionally, never judge or get mad at you.... give, give, give. They are truly a mans best friend. The wife didn’t even get out the truck cause she was so upset. Being the man of the house there is things you don’t want to do but have to do. Some people just drop their dog off, the vet asked me if I was staying. Hell yes I’m staying and holding my baby till her last breath. She went easily with her in my arms. No one passes alone on my watch, just the way I’m cut out I guess. Shit I’m getting upset again.
My wife couldn’t get off the floor when it was time for Tanner. Like you said, sometimes you gotta do things you don’t want to. Man up, kind of shit. It’s our job. Feeling those last moments is what I needed though, he would’ve done the same for me. I felt so much better walking out then walking in. It was finally over...no more wondering/worrying. It was over and that was a relief. Good luck on the following days. It still watered my eyes to write this.

I’m feeling you. I love/hate threads like this. Every time I read someone’s pet not doing good I try to choke my tears back as all the memories of my passed love ones is relived. Hard to even listen to my buddy’s when they talk about their dogs. I’ve always had hunting dogs which means more time spent with them and interacting. Didn’t think I could get so attached to a little house dog, well 16+ years is a lot of time spent together. Thank all of y’all for the comments and letting me share as it helps with these difficult times.
Campfires aren’t just for tears of joy...throw another log in if you need it. That’s what makes this place, THIS PLACE!

You did good by that dog to be with it. I sat on the floor at the vet's office with Hank's head draped across my leg. The kids and wife were petting him as she put him down. It's only right. Guaranteed he would be by my side if something happened to me while he was here. No shame in some tears Triple. Part of life.
Everything looks to be a go for getting Otis. Haven't gotten a pick up date yet. Looking forward to having having a dog in the house again. Seems. . . Empty.
In the meantime, will find myself at the neighbor's petting their pup. And to help matters, last night we dog sat for my wife's brother and sister in law. Heck, we had one of their kids and their dog. Not a little dog fan but this little girl is a sweetheart. Not the first time we've watched her for them.

Time to order a collar and some training items. Girls and I are heading out in the AM to start getting stuff together for the kennel. Lots to do in the next 6-7 weeks to get ready!
