All I know is Gunnar is a damn good dog and Jax certainly hasn’t disappointed.Inbred Lab, Rott, Shepherd, goat or whatever else may turn out to be just the mix we were after

I want to do Bailey now for comparison's sake because if you look at her, she's 100% lab. Nothing else is noticeable in her except her bark.

Well, it's definitely odd, but I'm not a geneticist. I'll say this, his mother came from a breeder that does silver labs. They advertise everything is AKC. But if mom typically carries the most weight genetically, he should have been much more lab than that in my layman's mind.

Hence the implied skepticism in my post. We know someone with a silver from these people and I'd bet $1,000 it's not 100% lab. Doesn't mean it's a bad dog or that there's anything wrong with it, but I'm not buying the claim that it's a purebred lab.

Easiest way is too have someone run a DNA test on one. See how much lab it actually is. That’ll end some of the debate.

There's a difference between being "hung up" on purebred dogs and being sold one at a premium that isn't really a purebred. That's fraud.

In today’s fucked up world, its cool to mix breeds so they can have a “designer” dog. I love dogs pure or not, I’m not an elitist, so don’t take my words wrong.

I happen to know an awesome guy that has a Silver. I bet he would be up to doing DNA testing on it.

Seriously though when my Mom came up to visit a few weeks ago we had this same conversation. It peaked my curiosity. I think I will order a kit when we get through the holiday. Either way it will be interesting to see what shows up.

Well, sorta. Most of the BLANK-doodles, BLANK-apoos, silvers, etc are all relatively “new” breeds... They didn’t come on the scene and gain popularity until the last 10-20 years. Matter of fact, the “inventor” of the Labradoodle has gone on record to say he regrets the whole thing. There are some versatile bird dog breeds nowadays but most serious hunting dog breeds haven’t changed much for over a 100 years.

Wisdom Panel. Got it off Amazon, then run it through Wisdom Panel. Pretty easy process that took about 3 weeks start to finish.

Doodles and most other designer breeds weren't bred for hunting though. Most were bred for a more hypoallergenic dog from my recollection.
