A quick lunch break run to a local pond produced a surprise. On a light fiberglass fly rod this was fun.

I jumped at the opportunity to get the paddleboard out on Saturday while the wife and child went shopping. The weather was perfect, sunny and almost no wind. That makes sight fishing for carp a whole lot easier. The water was still chilly in the lake and the fish weren't real active. Basically I paddle around a shallow flat until I find bubbles or spot a fish.

The flies I tied are a pattern called a Headstand that looks a lot like a dragonfly nymph in the water.

I hooked up on the first set of bubbles I cast to, but it wasn't what I was expecting.

I spotted a shadow of a fish leaving a mud cloud and led him by a foot or so, and the fish did the rest. This one drug me around for a few minutes.

That fish sort of blew the rest of that area out with my little sleigh ride. Need to remember a stake out pole next time to anchor. I paddled to another bay and hooked up there, same story. Fish drug me through other fish and blew it up.

Pretty day to be out. I ended up hooking three carp and landing two, plus the bonus channel kitten.
