He baits all year long. I asked him to stop for a while, being that he’s tagged out, and told him to resume after gun season. If I’m the only game in town, it should increase my chances.Tell him to quit baiting!
Nothing I can do about it until gun season. I got today and tomorrow with xbow then headed home Saturday. Gun season I can move around and sit on the ground…woods are pretty open on the side he’s coming in on so I can shoot a long distance with a gun.Correct, if a mature deer sees you and doesn't slip out. They have you patterned and you are not a threat to them. I don't think the corn pile matters. Even without corn, that deer is gonna be in that area to watch you walk in and out.
Sleep in the blind and trick him lolNothing I can do about it until gun season. I got today and tomorrow with xbow then headed home Saturday. Gun season I can move around and sit on the ground…woods are pretty open on the side he’s coming in on so I can shoot a long distance with a gun.
What’s the definition of insanity?Nothing I can do about it until gun season. I got today and tomorrow with xbow then headed home Saturday. Gun season I can move around and sit on the ground…woods are pretty open on the side he’s coming in on so I can shoot a long distance with a gun.
Are you suggesting I throw in the towel today and come back gun season? I figure I’ve got nothing better to do and am hoping that a hot doe brings him my way. What’s the definition of insanity?
Nope, I’m suggesting get aggressive and make it happen. Nothing too lose, and you might get better intel in the process. Are you suggesting I throw in the towel today and come back gun season? I figure I’ve got nothing better to do and am hoping that a hot doe brings him my way.
The property is pretty much set up to hunt with the exception of adding a ladder stand to the rear. I usually get my target buck within the first few days of hunting, but the neighbor who sold his land has been hunting the other neighbors land for the past two years and his bait pile being only 200 yards from me is really screwing things up. If he didn’t sell his land and was still hunting at his place, I’d be golden. The one neighbor doesn’t hunt, so the deer would pass through his property on the way to mine, but now with the other neighbor hunting and baiting the piece, they stop by his pile first and it’s dark by the time they hit mine. If you came out to my place and I showed you around…you’d probably say “yup, you’re fucked as long as this guy is hunting here”.After you kill this mother fucker. Let's do some timber management/habitat creating. Because this problem is only going to get worse as you introduce a quad. I'm saying "lets" because I know I will be more than happy to come help you fall trees and such. I can also run equipment if you rent any. No need to pay someone.
Ladder stand at the rear of the property is my only hope…but they still have to get past his bait pile to get to my property no matter where I’m hunting.Do you have enough room to completely relocate your bait pile further away from that property? Not saying this year per se but in years to come that is. Two bait piles so close together him and other deer are probably just watching to see which bait pile someone walks to and then visit the other. Clearly he has you pegged if he didn't even react as you walked by. He knows you are not a threat there. Also, don't underestimate the range of your crossbow. There are likely trails going to his bait pile that lead onto your land. If that buck is bedding on your place you can cut him off and nail him on the way. Or you can hope he continues to survive til gun season, provided the neighbor doesn't have "his wife or 2 year old kid" shoot him in the next couple weeks
Just curious, ever ask your nice nieghbor to hunt his property since he's got his buck tag already filled?View attachment 139871
Big red patch is where he beds…travels to neighbors bait then mine. Most deer travel mid to rear of the properties. There’s really nowhere I can put the bait to make him come to it without passing the neighbors bait site. He’s back in bed by daylight…usually after hitting my pile around 4:15am every day.
