Sgt Fury’s 2022 Ohio/NJ seasons

Just got delivery of my new Banks blind. Going to place it at one of my hunting properties after the six day NJ firearms season in December. I’m placing it so that I can cover the swamp near my ladder stand and also cover the field. I can use it Turkey hunting without worrying about skunks messing around with my portable blind (saw one several mornings searching around right as it was getting light enough to see last season). I can also cover the field where a lot of deer were piling out of a thicket to eat in the evenings. It was too far to shoot from my ladder stand…this blind will go half way between the field and my current ladder stand, basically it will be used late season and spring Turkey. Seems to be better sealed than my sportsman’s condo so I won’t have to mess with wasps in the future.

Thanks…look forward to that trip every spring. We go there just to fish in mid April and again in mid May. July is for drinking with the occasional day spent fishing.

Finally got cold enough for me to enjoy my first sit of the season. Five does were pounding down the sweet gum pods. No buck sightings.

Trout fishing today after the state did a fall stocking of the larger trout and breeders. Got one so far but the fishing is slooooow.

Only got one but it was 16”.

Put the finishing touches on the camo this week. Going to wait until after gun season to put it out….don’t want to put the deer on alert just yet. Late season hopefully they get used to it.

Coming out to Ohio this Friday and getting the stand set up on Saturday. A buddy placed bait this past Tuesday and I still haven’t seen a buck….all does. Hopefully the does will eventually draw in a few bucks but it is friggin slow as far as buck movement.

Finishing loading up the truck, early to bed tonight then on the road to ohio at 4:00am. I’m bringing some stuff that some people wanted to buy and will set up a time and place to meet Dave or someone else this Saturday. After getting stand ready, I should be hunting/in the stand Sunday morning. Hope the bucks start moving in my area as I don’t have any bucks on camera in over a week.

I finally got a picture of a buck at my stand! It’s a young buck that I will pass….but if he’s the only one I see after a few days…I’m not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. I hope the huge one from last year is still around but he usually chases every other buck away so there’s a good chance he’s dead.

Had a 8 pointer come in a half hour after legal time. Looks more mature than the ten pointer from the morning before. The last pic is a Turkey that doesn’t appear to be too friendly about sharing the golden acorns.

Had a monster buck on my pile but it was too dark to see in the scope….all I could see was a dark blob. I could see the huge rack but couldn’t see well enough to even guess at how many points he had. Five minutes before good enough light to shoot, he wandered back down the ravine. I checked my Spartan cam but apparently it’s having issues as it hasn’t taken a pick since 7:30 pm last night. Hope he comes back. He ate on the pile for a good 20 minutes so he definitely knows it’s here now.

Another young buck on the pile. Seeing an uptick in movement for the smaller bucks.

Had these two stop by again overnight…with this weather forecast I do believe it would be a mistake for one of them to tempt me.

Saw two does in the morning and a tall,wide four point at 5:58pm, then two more does came in 15 minutes before dark. The four pointer never came in as there were about a dozen hens on the pile. I’m not seeing any movement aside from first and last light.
