1968 El Camino Project

Another night in the books. We got a few things done but not what we wanted. On the good side we got the bed liner sprayed in. Wow what a difference that makes. Put the door seals on and the head lights.
Replaced the valve seals in the old 307. Was setting the last rocker when we noticed the lifter wasn't moving very much when rotating the motor. Pulled that lifter to check it out and found the cam is shot. Better to find it now I guess. So tonight we will swap the cam and lifters then put it back together.
We did get the motor all painted. Hopefully if we do not run into any other issues we will have the motor in tonight.

A long with the motor hoping to get the front end all buttoned up then the rear bumper back on. After that it will be start on the dash.
I will take some pics tonight and post tomorrow.
 
Jon that was a typical issue with GM back in the day... Don't forget timing gear and chain will probably need replaced as well....

It won't be if he has to buy a new cam. Of course Jon will put a little lope into it. Next best thing is a noisy gear drive to go with that new lopey camshaft and lifters.

Never was a fan of beefing up the top half without a new bottom half.... But seems too work for most.... Either way it's always nice too see the progress on this.....
 
Not going to do much to this motor. It won't be in there long. I have a 355 that I am building that will go in but I will not have it done until this winter some time.
And yes it will have the added touches to make it sound like I would like. I already have the cam for it and will be a .517 lift comp cam. Really all I still need is the crank and pistons then I can start putting it back together. Just waiting for my wallet to recover from everything else.

Dash is in. Motor is in. Still need to get a few things buttoned up on the motor before it is ready to fire.
Front end is together. Rear Bumper is on.
Hopefully tonight we will get the vinyl to on (if it shows up at the door)

That thing is going back together fast. I am impressed. Orange paint on the block brought a smile to my face. I was always an older Chevy guy. I rebuilt a 77 F250 Hi Boy years ago. Repainted the block Chevy racing orange. The Ford guys all gave me a hard time. I told them "I wanted to make sure it ran right." Never failed to get them fired up. lmao
 
This will probably be my last update until Monday. We got the carpet in and the vinyl top on last night. Tonight we will finish buttoning up the motor. We will also be wet sanding to finish the paint. Tomorrow will be all about the interior and getting the windshield and back glass back in.
I am waiting on a few trim pieces I ordered that will complete the car. They probably won't be in until next week but the car should be driveable after tomorrow.
I will try to get some pics up Monday after the glass and wet sanding are done.
Connor's Birthday is Tuesday so it will be a great feeling to have it done in time.
