We got our asses handed to us this morning.. Had two gobbling on the roost. One tom close and a jake further out. The tom pitched and worked away to the jake. Then they started to work back towards us. Instead of using the beautiful short grass logging road they went left of us on the military crest and got behind us.. Then they were down in the field to the east. We snuck down and got set up on an inside corner, but there was a rise in the field about 20 yards in front of us. There were three of the gobbling right over the rise but would never crest it. They eventually worked back into the woods and it sounded like they were back where we originally setup.. So we made a big loop and got back to our original spot. no sooner than we sat down and made a call a tom came running but Alex couldn't see him. He either saw us or didn't see that hen and he worked his way back.. 15 minutes later they were in a different field on the other side.. We snuck down and it looked like two lone toms and a jake. We got a strutter decoy out and they were gobbling but working back towards the woods. We managed to get some looks and Alex gobbled at them and they worked our way some but they really wanted to go back in the woods.. For toms that had no hens and were covering ground gobbling the sure as hell didn't want to play ball very much. That's ok, tomorrow is another day..

I hear one almost daily from my porch but it's on preserve ground and nothing I can do except listen. Probably where all the dam birds are at. I'd donate $100 at this point just for a couple hours permission to hunt him.
That flock was every bit of 50 birds. It seriously looked like it swallowed a horse.

Need me to go for a walk? 😂

I’ve been at it. Have not heard one gobble the last two days. Been a pretty boring season so far. Found a few shrooms the other day. Then went on a beer run. See two kids standing by my mail box with shrooms in their hands. Drive a little father and there’s some fella sitting in his truck.

Stopped beside him, tell him I own the place. He just looks at me. I said ya need to leave my property. Not going to be a prick about it. But me and my son hunt the area. So he shows me a mushroom and was like well ya better get to picking there starting to go bad. Then proceeds to tell me my property is not posted. So I told him well is it yours? Ya need to go.

I wanted to be a first class asshole at that point. I held my tounge tho due to there being two young boys. Luckily my dog was not out. They would have shit there pants if he rolled up on them.

Anyhow guess I’m going to have to post it agin. I did once. Yet mysteriously out of the 20 or so signs I put up. They are all gone. I wish they would start the purple law.

Addy and i were set up within 100 yds or so of a gobbler before daylight. He gobbled 4 times on the roost and silent after flying down. Seen a couple hens and heard another distant gobbler.
Gonna take a break tomorrow, for being only 12 she is a trooper, but i know she is getting burned out getting up at 0445 every morning...
Im going to take Drew catfishing tonight and plan to sleep in tomorrow...

They are around. Tyler roosted 5 our 6 last night just off our property. We were both committed to hunting other places this morning. My buddy killed one in WV and I had one coming that detoured just in time. Tyler took a rookie this morning and has had birds all over him but he hasn’t got a shot off. I told Tyler to never let one get away. I’m back home trying to find one now.
