Absolutely horrible.My condolences.
I would recommend hard wiring your smoke detectors.
Also be sure be damn sure you have a RCV (replacement cost value) insurance policy.
If you currently have a ACV policy (actual cash value) insurance policy you would never be able to rebuild back .
A ACV policy depreciates every thing . Say you have a 30 year shingle on roof and your roof is 20 years old you would only get 1/3 the money for your shingles.
A RCV policy will replace. the roof/shingles for what it costs.
One other interesting thing you have a house fire they send out somone to inspect home /how it happened . Like when my house burnt..
Was due to a wood burner that was installed 28 years ago. Bolton line it was an accidental fire .
Well you can’t get insurance on your home for 2 years I believe it was .
I can’t imagine what the family is going through and will go through with a death being involved.
I can state from my experience of house burning it was a total shit show. From insurance trying to fugg ya (50cents on the dollar for materials)
to even some of the people you deal with outside of insurance company.
I could rant for days. So when they said it was the fireplace the fella said he had talked to wife about the wood burner and that we had the paper work for it ..
I said why’s that matter he said well we’re (insurance company) going to go back and sue who ever put it in 28 years ago for the cost of everything. I told him I would have to look. Well we ended up having just the paper work of what kind of fireplace it was.
It’s a horrible experience and a ruthless process .
Oh one other thing make sure your insurance policy also has a clause in it if a fire were to happen you have a allowance rent it’s a long process if you have to rebuild.
In our case where we’re at. Oil and gas was happening rent was 3 k a month to rent a place that should have been 800 max plus your mortgage still needs paid.
Rant over . Really sorry to hear about this brother/Jamal
