Gosh dang it....ran out of time! Almost happened again! I had planned on hunting till 4 so's I could have plenty of time to shower and pack my bucket before heading off to work. My last call attempt was around 3:15. I didn't want to call that hen in again and have her pin me down so I couldn't leave without getting busted. Nothing showed till 4 so I backed out and slipped out the backside cornfields edge and headed towards my truck 250 yards away. I snapped a few honeysuckle twigs on my way and after not walking 50 yards from my set I hear a couple gobbles!!! WTH!!! Where was he all afternoon???

I thought, hey this might just take a few minutes! So I popped back into the finger and squatted by the nearest big tree and commenced to make a few light calls and immediately got him/them to fire back some gobbles. This went on till 4:40 then I had to leave. I slipped out and was still hearing gobbles as I left. I'll be there at 10:30am tomorrow with my BIL Tim and hopefully I/we can double up some birds.

Sooooo close....again!

Exciting, yet frustrating. I am impressed with your stamina and diligent efforts Ric! Wish I could hit it tomorrow but my plate it full of work.

Ron hit the nail on the head! This season and last, I don't know anyone that has worked any harder. I truly hope you get to drop the hammer!

Thanks guys! I have a great feeling about Sat&Sun. With Tim working his mouth reed to perfection and the gobbling I heard this late afternoon should be tits! We're hunting from 10:30am till they fly up so time won't be a factor...lol

My odds just took a dump! My BIL had to work so I'm going solo again. Rain in forecast and its suppose to be heavy at times. Heading out in a few.
Thanks Don, I'll post updates but won't be out all day if its going to rain much.

Been set up for 10 minutes and spotted no turkeys on my way in. I'm set up by my TC again. We got a good rain here earlier this morning and the skeeters are out bigtime!

Just going to call softly every so often like 45 minutes or so. Maybe catch one cruising the edges looking for love.

I've always done pretty good hunting the open fields during and after rain. I think they head to the fields to look for insects and worms the rain brings out plus they can hear better in the open.

Wow you have really hunted hard this season.I remember when i use to work the night shift from 4pm til 2 am and know how tough it can be to stay motivated and keep getting after them.I really do hope you knock a big one down.Good Luck.

Thanks for the support guys! Nothing is happening and I'm starting to get that "healthy dump" feeling and very tired. I'm gonna head back to the house for lunch and some rest so I'll be refreshed for the afternnoon evening hunt.

Fishing and drinking sound damn fun but I'm TOO tired for that even...lol

I'll post back up when I get settled in later.

I'm back and settled in at a spot where I killed my second jake for my career. It's near where the finger meets a creek bank and many critters cross thru there.

On a downer note though, I have a severe thunderstorm off to the south heading N-NW and I might get it very soon. I'm hoping it just misses me to the west and I get just alittle wet.

Thunder getting louder causing a few very distant gobbles. Moved closer to my truck in case it's a lightening show. Settled below my TC again and at 5:00 I saw the two toms I've been catching on camera cruising the other side of the field I'm set up on. They're about 150-175 yards away so I did some light calling they heard it and stopped. They turned around and went back along the fields edge out of sight. Either I suck as a caller or they are just being rather leery and coming the long way around. Lol

Deer starting to mill around right where those two longbeards were. Looks like mostly does though. Still not a peep from the birds.

A hen just popped up out of the blue over there TOO.

Getting aggressive er impatient(lol)and moved away from where I saw them last and went 300 yards away near their main roosting area. Hope things pick up soon...

...I could be sitting in a hot tub drinking a few cold ones jamming to some big hair 80's rock!lmao
