Covered miles and miles and miles today. I cheated and used the quad. My time is limited so I need to cover as much ground as I can right now. Not a single freaking shed. I don't get it. Had a buddy on the back of the quad sitting on the rack facing backwards. We were looking from different angles even. Just weird. We should have found something. We even got off the quad and hit a few "sure thing" spots. Nope. I am just puzzled.

A lot are still carrying down here Phil. I'd venture to say 85-90% even. Two weeks from now it could be down to 50-60%. We'll start finding some soon

So you think half way through march half are still gonna be carrying? My area I'd say about 5% are carrying. Saw a half rack this morning but he was the only one...

Has been weird. I will keep looking. Haven't seen a buck holding in roughly 1.5-2wks. Haven't seen many deer though. I won't complain or cry about it. I will keep looking. Just a bit puzzling.

FACT: this weekend there's been 10 bucks close to my place, seen crossing the roads still carrying both sides. My trail cameras revealed 7 bucks still packing and the results tell me it's not peak time yet. I hate walking the same places twice and I still search my fields and outline patches, until I find frequent drops in those locations. Then, walk my ass off. Iam still packing Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas cookies for Gods sake. Lol. I really think as of right now, in my surrounding areas, that 50-75% are still holding there antlers. Just my opinion, much like ODNR estimating our deer herd! Lol. Good luck fellow TOOZERS!

JD, that's exactly what I'm saying. It's friggin weird down here. One time it was March 22nd and I was shed hunting near Winton Woods Park and was finding fresh rubs and tore up scrapes and no sheds. I must have covered 4-5 miles of walking that day being determined that sheds HAD to be on the ground by now. Well, finally while heading back to my truck after 4-5 hours of walking I looked up towards where I parked my truck in the distance and caught movement to my left. Saw a nice 110" 8 and 2-3 other small 1.5 year old bucks still carrying both sides. The thicket they were in had some clearings in the area down the hill and beyond where they were standing that I had covered 4 hours earlier where I found the fresh rutting sign. I thought I'd see how close I could get to these bucks as they are very tolerant of human activity in this area. They busted when I got to within 20 yards of them and 2-3 nicer bucks and a lone doe were spotted bounding away further down the hill with one buck being at least 160-170 inch buck. I stood there with my jaw opened in disbelief and somewhat frustrated. Lol

So I turned around and headed back to my truck and said FUGG IT! Rotflmao

I jump a lot of bucks here in late March! They're waiting for greenup so's they can hide em better....bastards! Lol

Makes me feel a little less like I am losing my mind after seeing this. I saw fresh rubs yesterday as well. No fresh scrapes, but last weekend I saw one which looked like it was maybe a month old or so. It HAD been opened up since late January when I had last walked by it.

I agree with FS and others. Bucks here in the SW part of the state hold well into April on many cases. It makes it very tough and frustrating. I do not like to walk the same areas twice either, just do not have any confidence the second time around, but that is almost what you have to do if you look much earlier then the end of march. I walked 5 hours today in a deer rich area, full of sign (no hunting zone) and didn't find the first shed, so do not feel bad. On a side note, I saw SIX other shed hunters, which was a first to me. I went to go into one end of the woods, and four guys beat me to it. So I walk to the other end and find two other people and two black labs searching!! Looks like it is time for me to start knocking on some doors, I hate dealing with that crap. I surely hope shed hunting doesn't get like bow hunting. My face is wind burnt! This freezing snowing weather in March is for the birds!

TOO late! Shed hunting has become very popular already and it will only get more and more popular.
