Good question. The block is maybe 5 acres. and the next closest is 1.5 miles away. He has to be real close.

Got this buck on that camera. New guy.. Massive body for the size his horns are.
And I went to move a cam that hadn't been getting much action. And by much I mean none. I had it over corn for 2 weeks getting 10 pics last week and only 1 this week.. I moved it about 200 yards to the bottom of the hill. Dumped the corn, broke some branches for the cam. hung the cam and stepped back to look at the setup..
Guess who was laying 15 yards away the entire time.
He stood up and bolted. Ran to a top field that's cut beans. He went about 400 yards out and just stood there. Then slowly walked in to the other woods. He didn't go far as the wind was at his back. I could tell he went to the other edge and laid down. I didn't think he would be in there because it's only about 10 acres and the weekend before 3 guys who lost permission we're in there driving quads around pulling their ladder stands. He'll be back, all the does are there.

The crazy thing is he was bedded in some thick stuff not 40 yards out front of where those guys just pulled a ladder stand, and not 20 yards from another ladder stand. They drove their quads right up to them. Just goes to show you, even if you think you're safe to go barging in somewhere always be cautious this time of year.. The thing now is I know where he's been frequenting.
I believe that is exactly why they get big. They hide and know when to stay hidden in some of the darndest places. I've found beds and sheds right up next to housing additions and homesteads where a "Normal" hunter would not look for one.
At least you got to see him!!! Not the ideal encounter, but still has to be cool to see him on the hoof...

Dude was an unquestionable shooter.. I told JD how big he looked in person.. He's about a 153 as a 10 jd said. I replied "Yeah but with only 4 inches of it is G4's.. lol.. That's a hell of an 8. lol
