Ok we hunted this morning. I ended up seeing 8 does by 11am. Hunter seen a bunch and a couple small bucks.

We got back in the stands but this time Hunter only brought his bow. I told him to stick anything he wanted. He seen a couple deer and had a spike pushing a almost hot doe so he didn’t kill her. I on the other hand, sat next to the field and had 5 does out. They kept watching back and a few more does came out with a nice 8pt following. He was at 315 yards and looked nice. I thought about it and raised my rifle to size him up as he walked away. Yeah they look bigger from behind. He turned around and was walking towards me and he looked right outside his ears. That usually is around 16-17”. He started feeding and I told myself if he presents a shot I’m gonna let one fly. My MOA was .9 and lined it up and the gun went off. Thought he hit the ground. It was well after sunset about ten minutes from shooting time. Put the gun back up and he’s still standing there. Bolted another round and let one fly. This one splashed just below his brisket. The does got spooked and began to go into the crp. He followed but I could see him clearly. With my last bullet on me I squeezed again and hit him. He took off and I got down to go look for blood before total darkness. I couldn’t find anything and Hunter pulled up so we went back where I thought he was. Hunter says here’s blood and the track began, all 40 yards in the head high grass. Yes I got some ground shrinkage and not happy about it but thankful to be hunting on my anniversary day and for taking Gods creature.

I guess bitching does work [emoji1787]

We are back in the stands. Hunter wants to kill w his bow so he’s in a climber hanging up n a tree. He’s really become the big deer hunter, way more than me. I’m very proud of him. I’m in my box blind with heater on lol. 35 degrees and heavy overcast. Gonna rain tonight at 12 pm and pour heavens tears for a solid day

My plan is to only kill a BIG buck, I’m on my last buck tag. So we bringing in the new year right, spending time in the outdoors. We will duck hunt tomorrow in the rain.

Impressive the amount of meat that hits your freezer. How many is that so far this year? Just deer, I doubt you count ducks.

It’s a few lol. We have given meat away, friends and family and some hunters that couldn’t hunt this year. I have a buddy that gets 30 doe tags and picked up two deer to give away, and I’m getting another today. I’m like the food pantry for natures food you might say.

That’s awesome! Here I am holding the shit like it’s a precious metal. Stock piling it for a special occasion. [emoji23]

Well we are different, our seasons are long, get six tags, probably the reason we don’t have 130’s or bigger behind every tree like Ohio, Midwest states. Also we are heavily wood and not as easy to pattern them. I have never run out of deer meat in my life. We usually eating on last years meat this year. I love the Midwest hunting but it ends too quick. One or two tags and your hunting is over with. So you get two weeks of hunting. The deer are what you want to kill (big) but I wouldn’t trade it for my season down here that is 4 months long. Next year we should get picked for Kansas, and the following year for Iowa.

My bucket list is an elk and would love to hunt Alaska for a moose. Both are expensive to do.

Ohio season is 4 months and you can kill 6 total, just one buck.

I’ve been lucky enough to do the Alaska moose thing. Best meat ever. I will continue that once the kids are grown and out of the house.

I’d have to put some thought into what my dream hunt would be. A week on the ice chasing walleye sure sounds like a dream right now.

Be careful with those elk. I've sat in a tree a grand total of 4 hours this season and that was back in October. After chasing rutting bulls for two weeks in September sitting in a tree waiting for a whitetail has lost all appeal. All I can think about is where im going to hunt elk next year, maybe an antelope hunt, or chasing western muleys. Anything on the ground with tens of thousands of acres to roam.

I felt the same way after my Missouri bow hunt. It’s at the camp but has not been taken out the bow case since making the 12 hr drive home.

I guess I’m going get a preference point this year to elk hunt. Most likely New Mexico.

No points in New Mexico. If you want to actually draw you almost have to pay an outfitter now.

Supposed to rain cats and dogs at midnight and continue the next whole day and quit at7am the following morning. Looks like we duck hunting tomorrow morning. Hopefully giles pointed in the right direction.

Well 40 minutes after shooting time it’s light enough to shoot. We opted out of going out in the rain storm. Guess I’m gonna go to town for fuel, ice and gold dust.
