I plan to fish for them below the Greenup Dam on the Ohio. I've not done it, but it is a pretty popular spot to get them. I fish Rocky Fork and Paint Creek the most, locally. There have been guys telling me they have been getting saugeye and crappie from both Paint and Rocky recently. I'm sure I'm missing out on the best bite of the year down there.

We are leaving he boat at home tomorrow and hitting a bank at Indian lake for saugeye tomorrow. Hopefully these 20-30mph winds lay down a little like they're supposed to.

There is a point at Rocky Fork that is usually good for saugeye, even in the middle of summer as there is a sharp drop off for them to hide in during the heat of the day. I've often thought it would be "the spot" to night fish this time of year with some rapalas, just haven't done it...may have to soon.

I've never done much fishing in the summer except bass. Would love to figure out the saugeye on Indian or the walleye and perch on our local reservoirs this summer.

I catch them where they shouldn't be in the summer...very shallow most days, but just look until I find them. Some days, it takes a while. My buddy Jerry, (posted a pic of him today in the hunt update thread with a nice buck), trolls almost exclusively. He catches everything in the lake on the cranks he drags around. Often, I'll check with him to see how deep he's marking fish and go from there. He covers a heck of a lot of water in a days time. One day this summer, I started early as did Jerry. I didn't get on the perch until noon...he didn't start hooking up until 1230! Fish are funny some days. We each had 5 hours in it before we found 'em.

This thread needs a sticky!

Finally got to get out Monday evening. Hoover is still pretty cold temps but we managed to pull a 4 lb channel catfish. Only fish but shooting 100% for the season thus far.

Good catch, Huck! I'm considering fishing Rocky tomorrow. I haven't been there for a week and a half, suffering withdraw symptoms.

Yea I'm at the point where I'd like to be fishing once a week...I'm able to do that for the most part, so maybe this year I'll actually catch some fish!

And one heck of a mixed bag! Come to think of it, they still have some trout pinned in at Rocky. Maybe I should just fish for them...nah. It's about time to find some of those 15-16" cow crappies!

I made it down to Rocky today in search of crappie. The guys at the bait store, and everyone I spoke with on the lake said I should have been there a couple of days ago. Typical. :)

I went by a couple of old guys in a Ranger as I headed back into a bay I wanted to fish. They had been out all morning, and had caught NONE of legal keeping size (9"). Having heard the sad news from everyone I'd run into, I decided I'd dip my jigs in a secret potion my Grandmother had told me about 30+ years ago. She was 95 when she passed away in 1992, and by golly she could catch fish! Anyway, I've been thinking about her a lot lately like I do every spring, so I gathered up a bottle of her special fish magic the other day. I went on by the guys in the Ranger, dunked my jig in the special fish medicine and caught a 10" crappie on the first cast, and the second, and the third. After two or three fish, the potion seems to loose it's magic. I tested this theory several times by going a spell without adding more of the magic liquid. It never failed, I would fish for 20 minutes without a bite, add the juice and get two or three immediately! The banks were lined with boats with occupants fishing live bait...they weren't catching squat, I did pretty good, with good size fish!

I kept a few, all between 10 and 13". No really big ones, but the best is yet to come.

When I pulled my boat out, the old guys in the Ranger were there doing the same. The captain of the boat came over, grumbling about what a poor day they had. He said they tried every bait they had, all depth ranges etc. Heck, they had a Ranger, they should have been catching fish, right? Seems the missing ingredient for them was a Grandma that knew how to catch fish when fish didn't want to bite! :)

I was running a little short on time so I offered to let the old fellas have my fish. They were apparently hoping for a fish fry and gladly accepted. I was glad not to have to dirty my knife, so it worked out well for all involved. Imagine, spend all that money on a Ranger and have to rely on the kindness of a stranger to eat fish!:)

Here's a pic of 'em in the net as I gathered them up to give away. Wasn't great, but wasn't a bad afternoon for me. All thanks to Grandma...

And NO, I ain't givin up the secret. :) I told someone about smoke once... :)

That's awesome Brock! Pretty good haul right there! I'd love to get into some slab crappie again!
Wetted my first line Monday evening at the neighbors, and ended up with half a dozen small bass, and one around 2lbs. Headed to the strip mines for four days with my father next week. Should be a good time if it doesn't rain on us all weekend.
