Had some fun up on St. Claire the last couple days. Fish are starting to move out to deeper water from spawning grounds.

Gained a lot more confidence in the dropshot after getting some real good advice on it.

Caught them anywhere between 9-17 fow on the dropshot off of grass patches and rocks around the mile roads. My biggest was 3.5 but had some buddies catch some that almost scratched 5.

Below are some of the picture worthy fish. Only managed 40 smallmouth on the trip with some long fishing days. Love all the color differences.

We spent the past week in Corolla in the Outer Banks. This was our first time in the area, really fun trip. There was a small pond beside the condo that I fished every day for 35-40 minutes, usually before the kiddo got up or after lunch. It was loaded with bass and big sunfish.

I rented a kayak one day to try to fish the sound. The surf was fairly rough all week and I didn't try it with my fly gear. A fly shop guy down on Roanoke Island told me the sound up in Corolla is almost 100% fresh water, no redfish or trout, and the fishing would not be good. Aaaaand, he was right. I fished hard from 9AM-2PM, covered a decent amount of water, had zero takes, and physically saw just one fish. I don't even know what it was, I spotted it chasing minnows near the cut I was heading for. By the time I got there, it was gone.

I started in the circled area and fished the bracketed area. I hit boat docks, weed lines, cuts, drainages out of ponds, and duck blinds...no fish.

Had a good day on Saturday. A buddy took me to a pond loaded with chunky bluegill and sunfish. So much fun.

There's good bass in there, too. We were trying to pull the old bait and switch because I had a big bass chase one of those big bluegill I had hooked. My buddy got it to eat a fly but missed on the hook set. A few seconds later and I told him it swirled on the small floating spider I was using for sunfish. Next cast...

I caught a few other bass, and ended the night on this one.

Medium action rod and spinning reel = me getting beat up on by this Bonita. He almost spooled me before I got him stopped. I had to grab the spool with my shirt because it burned my bare hand! Around the boat twice before Kristi got the net under him.
