Ohio Turkey Hunting Report

I was a quiet morning in my neck of the woods. The birds I watched last night, roosted further out on the point than I expected. I only got 4 gobbles out of them this morning. When they finally pitched down, they went the opposite direction towards a bottom field I can't hunt. I had one other bird gobble twice, then he went silent. Strange morning to say the least. Greg had the same issue on the other farm we have been hunting...

Went out after the same Tom after I put the kids on the bus today. He beat me to the same area again but I was able to get within 100 yards and get settled in. There was 4 jakes with him today, more eyes to fool. anyway I started calling and he was on fire gobbling at everything I had. Slowly all5 of them made it too me but, they picked up a couple of hens on the way. I was able to get him at 30 yards but all the others were between him and I so I never had a shot. At one point a hen was so close I could have grabbed her. Well a hen must have gave him some pillow talk because the two of them started to do the nasty, highlight of my day watching turkeys fugg. Maybe Friday

Ah, I forgot to post my turkey gang sign I came up with when I was bored.

This morning is the day! My spread is out and weather is calm and cool and I'm ready kill something! No gobbling yet but I've got a good feeling today. This is the earliest I've been out and I know their in here somewhere. I didn't put a bird to bed last night because of work but I know they can see my dekes from a good distance here. We shall see!

Update

Well, I started some yelping and clucking at 6:15 and had numerous gobbling from various directions behind me across the creek. I pretty much let them just know the area I was in and let them hammer away. I do know there was a hen or two near them because they were calling some too. The gobbling was moving up and down the creek bank on the opposite side about 100 yards behind me. After about a half hour of periodic gobbling one bird slipped up behind me within 30 yards and gobbled and I nearly shit myself. I was already in shooting position with my gun up but being behind a huge ass tree I couldn't see him and just waited for him to come on pass me.

Well Fugg! I sat there already to blow his head off not making a sound and he apparently moved on down the creek bottom. This is why I need to learn to use a reed call. Dang it!

I heard something stirring around the brush behind me around 7:30 along with some clucking and purring and slowly as I could I moved my ass around a bit cuz it was numb and flushed a hen by herself. She was just 15 yards behind me and I quietly uttered a few choice words as she took flight. I immediately started some calling in case another bird was nearby. It is now quiet and almost 8:00. I'll give it another hour then head home to bed for a couple hours then mow the frigging yard.

This is frustrating beyond belief!!!

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I really thought today was the day but I have to get going. I'm on 1.5 hours sleep and need to get some sleep. Lol

Jims trip to CO kept me entertained for most of the late part of the hunt but the birds just weren't cooperating. I'll try again tomorrow morning.....maybe.:smiley_coolpeace:

Got to bed last night after midnight....worked with my son on finalizing his science project. Got up at 4:30 and it was a beautiful day. Long story short, I killed a MONSTER gobbler at 10:00 this morning after an otherwise dead morning....he is 25.5 pounds and has over 11" of beard and his spurs are damn near 1-1/2"and has a head like a huge snapping turtle! Bird #2 for Ohio.....tagged out hell yeah!!!!!!!!:pickle:
