Out of State Hunt Suggestions

Hey everyone looking for suggestions on out of state hunts. 2 years ago my dad and I went to Northern Missouri and had a blast. This year I was thinking either Oklahoma or Kentucky as my out of state hunt. Would be during bow season and probably be late Oct or early November. Just wanted to get some ideas and discussion going on what has been everyone's experience with maybe a state I'm overlooking. Thanks everyone!

Go down south to Florida and hunt hogs or put in a couple archery deer hunts! I grew up there and have spent the last 25 years of my life there hunting. Very different style, VERY HUMBLING, different terrain and a big change of pace depending on what you’re targeting. Very rewarding place to hunt if you do connect though! Don’t forget you can always waterfowl hunt, gator hunt or catch fish lol

I always wanted to hunt Wisconsin for some reason. Never looked into it though.

Me and my son was going to do a Missouri hunt last year and things came up and didn't do it. What area did you hunt?

Definitely going to hunt WV this year, were only 40 min from the border and there's a bow only area not far across border

Kentucky. It's close and could make multiple weekend trips to hunt public. I know of a awesome public spot in grant county we had real good luck on it.

We hunted Indian Hills Conservation Area, about 15 miles from the Iowa border. Coincidentally it was about 2 miles from Terry Drurys farm, . Great area, and there were some other CA that were close enough to drive, but we were just learning that spot.

I like the idea of Kentucky for how close it is. I am very intrigued by Ft Knox after reading about it specifically.

I have a lease now in grayson County, but I've hunted grant and Lewis County public lands to. West ky definitely hunts better than east ky more crops and not as rough.

I'm surprised none of you mention Pennsylvania!

Nearly 1.5 million acres of State Game Lands.
About 2.2 million acres of State Forest.
About 16.9 million acres of National Forest.
About 2.2 million acres of private land open to hunting via agreement with Pa. Game Commission and landowners.
Plus 13,000 acres of Pa. Conservancy land.
Timber company lands available via permission also.

Then there is very little leased land in Pa. and while a lot of land is posted there are certainly landowners who grant permission also!

My best guess is that upwards of 70% of the state is open to hunting!

Never done an out of state whitetail hunt. Been to Colorado twice to hunt elk, once with a rifle and once with a bow. That’s quite the thrill. If you have any interest in going in the future I’d recommend buying a preference point soon, deadline is April 6. Just bought mine today. Gets you into a draw unit which has far less pressure than OTC places.

Spend a week in the 'Long Level' in the Kunjamuk Wilderness, near Speculator, NY. Third week of November should be about right. Be sure to bring plenty of warm clothing, as lake effect off of Ontario will be in full swing. Bucks are easy to see in the snow.

Pick up your IP company Land Use permit at Chas John's IGA, on the corner of NY8 & NY30. They cost about $12 / week. Maps of area are easy to come by on the NYDEC website. Look for beech nut groves, and swamp that is hemmed in by lumber roads. Bullseye.

My brother lives up in the mountains on the other side of Denver, he sends me some amazing pictures. Had some amazing mule deer pics from his house

Have a buddy from there and still goes back a few times a year. He kills deer everytime and a few bear but says shooting a giant right now probably ain't gonna happen but I guess they've recently changed some things to better the herd but I don't know

That is 2019 Jefferson County Buck shot on State Game Lands 44 in Jefferson County.
And That is 2020 shot just off State Game Lands 109 in Erie County. Just got it back from taxidermy and it has a pink spot on nose and white spots on cape so piebald.

That one is 2018 in a field off of another Game Lands in NW Pa.

And I think you remember 2017 and 2016 which is the double drop tine...

Every one of them were shot on or just off of Game Lands here in NW Pa. on land I asked permission to hunt on and the deer spent at least part of their time on Game lands. Now either I am blessed, or good or lucky or whatever, but any of these deer could have been accessed by any other hunter and the state is full of these opportunities but most don't hunt they complain. Incidentally the Jefferson County buck was a first day rifle hunt and the oter four were killed Wednesday evening between 4:30 and 5pm. Last years piebald was archery killed on 11/11, a Wednesday evening at 4:40pm.

Just saying...Now they aren't those Ohio Giants, but a pretty respectable average of 11 points and 135 gross B&C. But again I reiterate all available to anyone who wanted to hunt them!
