Not sure if mine has filled it more than twice. She sends the kids out. We are down to one kid at home. Lol

I’ve been successful of not cutting wood for a few years now. My buddy has been cutting wood off my homestead and selling it to support his Christmas and Hobby funds. By necessity I had to cut up this red oak that fell over my driveway during an August storm. It was a “Y” tree and the other half remains standing. I now have enough wood to boil Maple Sap in February.
Finally found a way to utilize my 28 year old Workmate table and get a lot more use of it! Lol

Have a little cleanup for today.
I'll be doing much of it throughout the winter months, in between hunts. Something that keeps me in top shape right along with hunting that I'll be doing.

Started the boiler last night. Up to temperature. Shut off the gas. Our furnace has not really been running a ton. This is likely the latest I have fired it up. It was just idling along this morning. Temp at full reading where the blowers are not on to stoke the fire. Still some smoke coming out with no clue for heat. I'm going to need to turn on the shop heater to pull some of the heat out of the boiler. Otherwise it may burn out with no call for heat. 
On the flip side we will now have our heat in the shop (which probably hasn't been much below 50 anyway.) We will also have our hot water heater taking the rest of the winter off and saving on electricity.

Cut and split a load for dad today. Didn’t even scratch the surface of all the dead ash that are on the ground less than 50 yds behind the cabin. Hand splitting is for a much younger man, I’m whooped 
. Maybe Santa Claus will bring me a splitter next year . No complaints though, happy to get him stocked up for the season.

I’ve got an assload of Cherry splits stockpiled for my offset. There’s an equal amount of hickory stacked up on the other side of my boiler. I don’t think I’ll need to split anymore for a minute or two. Lol

@Isaacorps look into a Fiskars axe. What you have looks like a maul. Something to split a big chunk and drive in with a sledge hammer. The Fiskars is lighter and you will want to focus on technique a bit more. You will.have more speed also. Where are our residents batting coaches? They can explain it better than I can.

. Honestly getting the stuff cut up and out of the woods was more work than splitting. Appreciate the tip!
These cold temps have the boiler just eating firewood right now. Been filling morning and evening pretty regularly since New Years Day. Thankful I don’t have to split but I do smash a finger or thumb on occasion horsing in big chunks like this one. Lol
Been trying to conserve firewood this year since I lacked the time to do as much as in years past. I turned the regulator down to 125-130 degrees versus 150-160 to conserve and it has helped and the warmth inside the house is barely noticeable. The furnace blower just runs longer on these really cold stretches is all.
