Some of you guys keep talking about clothes getting a stale smell. So if you just smoke your gear before you hunt when you get done would the HS scent bags i use be good to store your clothes in.Brock how often do you wash your hunting clothes after several smoke ups?Where do you all get your wood chips and brock what kind do you use?

You can never have enough chips...:) What you're gonna find out is that the smoker will get gunked up & the lid will be hard to open up. I keep my lid unhinged all the time & then take a steel brush to clean up the rim & inside of lid for easy on & off.

You're gonna love me. Just take your torch around the rim where that black stuff builds up and it'll puff up and turn to ash in a second. No scrubbing needed. If your lid gets stuck closed, a quick heat of the rim will unstick it then you can burn off the black gunk.

I have never put this much thought into running the smoker. I typically try to wash most of my clothes prior to the season. After that, they stay in totes. I smoke as needed, both my clothes and my person.

Never really worried about much after that.

I wash them before season, and again if they get blood-saoked :). Hickory chips are my favorite and are easy to find!

x2. I usually only wash the base layers unless I get blood on them or seriously sweated up. Otherwise maybe every 4-6 sits I wash them since I am swapping base layers every couple sits. Might be overkill, but I am extra precautious with my scent control. I bet my cold weather gear only gets washed pre season since the under layers are getting washed. You probably are over thinking this Don, but I figured I would help you if you wanted to go whole hog. lmao

Brock, these new style smokers really pump out the smoke! I was amazed at the difference. Is it just the height of the tray or the bigger hole for the bellow?

No problem! Tell Jeron I said hello, Ed too if he's around.

Jesse, they just work well. It's probably a combination of all the above.

I am a newb at this TOO but one of the words of advice I am remembering is be careful working the bellows around your hair, be very careful.

I got my chips Sunday at Lowes.

Right on Don. Smoke up your hair first. If you try to pump the bellows as the fire is dwindling down it seems as if it will throw an ember here and there. Hitting the hair while the smoke is flowing nicely on its own is best. Don't try it when it is just about done and you are pumping it to get every last bit of smoke out of it you can. lmao

I love pre smoking. It's a great reason to sit in the garage, drink beer, and get mentally prepared for the next mornings hunt.

Then I re-smoke when I get to my parking spot before heading to my stand. Just to be safe.

Before ya know it, every campfire will remind you of deer season.

Glad to hear you got 'em! Good luck with it this season. Did Jeron and Ed tell you any "smoker stories"?

Kroger, meijer, Walmart, I'd fire it up now and get use to it. So you know when to stop pumping the bellow and it doesn't shoot a flame at ya
