The Ohio State Buckeyes

To say VT at home, at night, is a cream puff is a dig at best. :smiley_coolpeace: That is one hostile place to play and had Brewer survived the game, VT was going to have a solid season. They have a lot of talent and could have made a run at the ACC title. Without him, I don't see that happening. But VT is certainly not the cream puff that say, Louisiana-Monroe or Middle Tennessee may be! lmao Or Hawaii and Northern Illinois... :smiley_blackeye:

Zeke should not be returning punts and he showed why last night. That issue gets solved next week.

The OL gelled as the game wore on. So did the DL. I'll cut them some slack since it was the first game of the season, on the road, at night, in a hostile environment. But they better pick it up. We know what they are capable of (e.g. Alabama - Oregon), so I expect to see them improve as the season wears on.

As for the QB situation, I like CJ back there for the sake of the vertical passing game. If we don't have #15 in the back field, then JT is the right call. However with Zeke running the ball and the caliber of athletes we have on the outside, we need CJs arm to stretch the field. He doesn't make the best decisions, but he'll learn. He has the kind of talent in his arm that allows him to make "bad" decisions and get away with it. As long as Zeke is healthy and tearing things up, CJ makes us a more lethal offense. Over the next few weeks we will see why Urban went that route. Pound Zeke, go up top. Pound Zeke, go up top. We've never had a serious down field threat like we have with him and IMO, it won the championship last year. He and Devin Smith made Zeke's running possible, not the other way around IMO...

In response to Joes post, can't disagree they have to shore some things up but I'll cut them some slack being it was the first game,it was on the road and in a hostile environment.

Hardly think VA Tech is a cream puff but looking at everyone ranked in the top 10 and who there next opponent is(exception being Oregon vs Mich St.), cream puffs aplenty! If you look at the first week scheduling over all it was pretty much tilted into all of the favored teams way but that's how it usually is during the first week.

The two turnovers in the first half was the biggest reason why the game was closer than most of us like,IMO. You let anyone hang around by giving them the ball with good field position it's going to happen.

I still think JT Barrett is the better option at QB and as he makes better decisions, quicker and faster on the designed runs and more accurate of a passer. The tipped pass by CJ that resulted in to a interception was being thrown to "who"? The TE with the defender wrapped around his back? There was no one open!!! He should have just thrown it away, IMO. CJ did make some good plays but in my eyes JT would have turned them into better plays...we'll see as the season goes on.

Speaking of week 1 games. Here's the rest of the bucks season. It's like an entire season of week 1 games. Now I understand the lineup was chosen years ago but you can't tell me they thought at that time these teams would be a worthy opponent. ""In a few years western Michigan, Maryland, Rutgers, and Illinois will be the powerhouse teams to beat!"" Said no one ever. Lol.

Hawaii
Northern Illinois
Western Michigan
Indiana
Maryland
Penn st
Rutgers
Minnesota
Illinois
Michigan state
Michigan.

You can't beat them up over their conference schedule. Not OSUs fault their own conference sucks. Blame the Big 10 for that. Besides, ask Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon how our weak schedule played out for them...

VT first quarter sucked. It was all OSU offense and defense. OSU looked like returning champs.

Second quarter was all VT, they looked like a solid team. OSU looking like a no raking team. Very sad display from the number 1 ranked team.

Third and fourth quarters ... People can say all they want about VT QB getting hurt, but truth is, he didn't do shit for the half of the game he did play. The backup QB scored a TD and he looked like hot garbage. Our defense should be ashamed of that.

I will still take the W on this, but it was not the game I thought it would be. OSU better get their heads together or else they are going to look stupid when one of these weak teams mops the floor with them.

OSU defense needs some work if they expect to be defending champs.

Wow! An OSU fan willing to call it like it is. Rare indeed.

Really? You are drinking the KoolAid again Joe. I think there was quite a few people who said what you did. Plenty of critiquing the Buckeyes. Plenty of us stating there is room for improvement. I was happy with the end result of a win. Not real happy as a Buckeye fan of the whole game. That second quarter was horrid. Sure there was a fumble and interception. Doesn't excuse it. Early season mistake due to rust? Maybe so. Maybe not. I am confident Urban will drill them on it and get them fine tuned as the season progresses. At the end of the game there were some nice highlights and plenty things to work on. It is a great starting point and it was a win. We will know plenty more at the end of the season. There is a ridiculous amount of talent on this team. Doesn't mean it will end in another National Championship. It means the potential is there if they take it one week at a time and continue to improve every game.

Well said Phil! I agree, happy with the win, but lots of room to improve.

As long gas we keep the winning, star recruits will still want too flock too OSU.... Bottom line keep winning you'll keep getting the cream of the crop.....

I agree. This goes for players and coaches in my opinion. One coach leaves, another one comes in itching to pad his resume under Urban.
